WWE Concussion Lawsuit | Lanny Poffo Shoots on Some Involved

On the latest episode of The Genius Cast with Lanny Poffo, Poffo gave his thoughts on particular people who tried to cash in on Vince McMahon via the now-thrown-out WWE concussion lawsuit.

For those who do not know, the WWE concussion lawsuit has been going on for a while now. It alleged that WWE did not provide adequate protection in regards to injuries from head trauma and concussions for wrestlers which led to health issues later in life. Over 60 former wrestlers jumped onto this class action lawsuit in hopes to receive some financial restitution for putting their health and heads on the line for Vince McMahon and the WWE back in the 1980’s and 90’s. This case, as of September 20th, was deemed meritless and the United States District Court of Connecticut dismissed all lawsuits against WWE. This is a huge win for WWE.
On the latest episode of The Genius Cast with Lanny Poffo podcast, Lanny opened up his thoughts about this lawsuit and its outcome:
“I got a phone call from this lawyer [Konstantine Kyros] a few years ago and I informed him that I read John Grisham novels. I read The King of Torts and I learned that nobody makes money on a class action lawsuit except the lawyer!
“[Kyros] said, ‘No, no, this is going to be different!’ and I said, ‘Look, why do you think they call me The Genius? Let me tell you something, I never got a concussion and Vince McMahon had the greatest rings I’ve ever worked on in my life!'”
Lanny continued, “[The rings] were like an amateur wrestling mat and then a canvas over that and I don’t think how you can protect your wrestlers more than that.”
Amongst those suing in the WWE concussion lawsuit were Road Warrior Animal, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Paul Orndorff, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Adam Bomb, Ahmed Johnson, Kamala, King Kong Bundy, Sabu, Smash and Ax of Demolition, The Berzerker, and even some referees like Brian and Earl Hebner and managers such as Slick.
When asked whether or not it was justifiable for managers like Slick to be included in the WWE concussion lawsuit, Poffo responded, “How in the world do you get a concussion from being a manager? You know? I was just a manager and I got kicked in the mommy/daddy buttons at ALL IN but I didn’t go sue anybody because, just think, it was probably my fault anyway if I [got hurt].”
“You know something?” Lanny continued, “If it wasn’t for Vince McMahon, nobody would know who I was and The Macho Man would be the best wrestler you’ve never heard of, so that’s what I think about that.”
The lawyer representing those suing WWE, Konstantine Kyros, is in the process of appealing the court’s decision. More information will follow when this becomes available.
