Maryland Promoters Celebrate One Year
Posted: Sep 18th 2007 By: CMBurnham
Local promotion Covey Pro Wrestling held its annual event at the Paw Paw Fairgrounds Friday evening.
The event celebrated Covey's one year anniversary in the business.
Rain threatened to stop the show, but it did not stop more than 250 fans from pouring into the bleachers to see legendary professional wrestler Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
A WWF Superstar during the height of professional wrestling's popularity in the 1980s, Roberts never held a world title, rarely was larger than his opponents, yet garnered a following second only to Hulk Hogan with his charismatic interviews, a fluid arsenal of moves including the DDT, and a penchant for bringing a 10-foot ball python named "Damien" to the ring.
Roberts was featured in a tag team attraction on Friday, teaming up with Covey promoter and heavyweight champion Sgt. Cody McGraw of Fort Ashby.
The duo was victorious over their opponents, the duo of Leslie Leatherman and Jake "The Machine" Davis.
The event also featured a battle royal, tag team championship match and cruiserweight championship match.
