Joey Ryan On Why The Dick Flip Isn’t Sexualized
Posted: Feb 19th 2019 By: Jake Drury
Joey Ryan has gotten the nickname “Famous Dick Wrestler” for a reason. He created a new wrestling move a few years back. An opponent grabs Joey’s penis and the penis is so strong that it can cause pain to the opponent who is grabbing it, also, flipping the opponent. The move has a love/hate relationship with wrestling fans, but it is a known draw and is over with many of the people that attend independent wrestling shows.
Joey was on Matt Koon’s Total Engagement podcast and shed some light on why his character does the dick flip, and why he doesn’t want the move to be sexualized.
After Matt Koon asks if there is so much dick flip backlash because people are uncomfortable with the sexuality involved in the move.
It is a fine line, um, it is something that I consciously know when I go into the ring. I know obviously the penis is a sexual organ, so there is sexuality already connected to it. But, I try not to sexualize what I do in wrestling. My character will never get off by having an opponent grab my penis. It’s specifically so I can hit the move… As soon as I make it sexualized, there is a whole different context to it. As long as I keep it as a weapon, or you know, motivation to win a match. Rather than motivation to take pleasure in it. It is a fine line and it is difficult. Sometimes people that I wrestle walk across that line. I have to explain that as soon as I do that, it changes the context of it.

Joey went on to say that the biggest demographic that responds to that move is 12-17 year old males because they find penis jokes hilarious and are smart enough to be in on the joke.
It’s refreshing to know that Joey puts a lot of thought into his character’s motivations and how it relates to the move set.
