NEWS
Abyss and Sonjay Dutt have apparently departed Impact Wrestling for backstage roles in WWE. Impact announced that Tommy Dreamer and Konnan are joining the promotion's creative team, spots held by Dutt and Abyss.

Triple H confirmed on a conference call prior to NXT's "TakeOver: Phoenix" event that Abyss and Sonjay Dutt will be joining WWE. He was quoted as saying "We are always on the lookout for talented people that can contribute to the product and to the WWE as a whole. It doesn't matter where they are from. The quality people that are talented that have a passion for this and want to go to the next level and succeed, I'm always looking for those people. Sonjay coming in here, Abyss coming in here for behind the scenes roles. We are going to see where the best fit is for them. I've heard of them. I know of them. So many people speak highly of them and their jobs over the years from a talent standpoint and from another standpoint. I'm looking forward to working with them and seeing where they best fit. Everyone here will determine where they fit, what they want to do and how they can help contribute in the best way to the product going forward."

Jake Hager won his MMA debut fight last night at Bellator 214, submitting his opponent J. W. Kiser in the first round with a triangle submission.. Hager, formerly known as Jack Swagger, came out with R-Truth who rapped for his entrance theme and used the “We The People” catchphrase throughout. His video on the big screen also included shots from his time in WWE and he was sporting the “We The People” t-shirt as well. The ending came at 2:09 after Hager controlled Kiser on the ground and then locked a head and arm chokehold to make him tap. Hager is the latest WWE Superstar to make the transition to mixed martial arts. Several of his former colleagues tweeted their good lucks to Hager last night before the show.

Speaking to The Sporting News before his fight, Jake Hager said that he hopes that by the second fight comes around, he will be using his old wrestling name of Jack Swagger rather than his real name. Hager explained that WWE doesn’t have a trademark on it and he’s in the process of owning the name through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He did say that there’s another Jack Swagger name registered for musical performances but feels confident that since he’s not in the music business, he will get it. Hager also said that he still has a good relationship with WWE which is why they allowed R-Truth to perform his entrance last night. “I thought that was a very good sign from them. It’s a little bit of writing on the wall from them,” he added. Swagger spent 11 years with WWE, from developmental in 2006 through his exit in 2017. He won the ECW World Title, the WWE United States Title, and the WWE World Heavyweight Title during his time there as well as being Mr. Money In The Bank in 2010. And just to show you how much Hager is personally liked by his peers, several WWE Superstars posted photos and videos on Twitter last night showing their support, including recording themselves watching the fight backstage and messages from The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Big E, Rusev, and others congratulating him for the win.

After Jake Hager (Jack Swagger) said last week that CM Punk and Brock Lesnar didn’t want to get punched in the face in MMA and called it something he’s had to learn how to do in camp, Punk responded to Hager via Twitter: “You shouldn’t either. Good skill this weekend, pulling for you.”

Impact Wrestling uploaded Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. A. J. Styles from "Final Resolution 2006" to their YouTube page. To view the match, click here.
