WWE Royal Rumble 2019: If Rumors Are True, Abyss Would Be An Excellent Surprise Entrant

WWE Royal Rumble 2019: If Rumors Are True, Abyss Would Be An Excellent Surprise Entrant

Could Impact Wrestling Hall-of-Famer Abyss be on his way to the WWE? More specifically could he be one of the surprise entrants in Sunday's Royal Rumble? Neither concept is a preposterous thought. Reports are swirling about Abyss and X-Division star Sonjay Dutt leaving Impact and signing with the WWE, though early reports suggest neither will be an in-ring talent.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer, the full capacity of Abyss or Dutt's role with the WWE are unknown, but with the Rumble coming up, having one or both make an appearance wouldn't be far-fetched.

Dutt is one of the more underrated in-ring workers and seemingly a great fit on 205 Live as a performer. However, he also holds value as a coach with the WWE Performance Center and beyond. Per Meltzer, Dutt received recommendations from former TNA employees who are currently working with the WWE.

Kassius Ohno is very much a mentor down in Orlando and there seem to be no plans of elevating him to the big shows. Perhaps Dutt could do something similar for the cruiserweight prospects still honing their craft at WWE PC.

Abyss would almost certainly be a bigger deal. He has been recruited and offered a contract by the WWE before, but up to now, he has resisted leaving the promotion he helped build. Some believe he may have been intimidated by the thought of performing on a bigger stage, and Abyss did talk about being wary of becoming just a number in the WWE's machine.
