Body slam: Namesake wrestlers bring their beatdown to Bell Avenue

Body slam: Namesake wrestlers bring their beatdown to Bell Avenue

Ross and Marshall Von Erich have a name to live up to, and that name — Von Erich — has more meaning in Denton than it has anywhere else.

The brothers are the sons of wrestler Kevin Von Erich and the grandsons of the wrestling family patriarch, Fritz Von Erich. On Saturday night, the brothers compete in a tag team match. (Prepare to see some dirty feet — Marshall fights without shoes.)

The Bell Avenue Beatdown brings the Von Erich brothers to Backyard on Bell for a tussle with the VET Club wrestlers Adam Asher and Kristopher Haiden.

Special guest referee Rick Manning will keep the holds, kicks and slams between the lines.

At the event, VIP Wrestling promotion also will feature a heavyweight championship match between champion Shane Taylor and challenger Jonathan Gresham. VIP Wrestling also will host a match between “Dirty” Andy Dalton and Jimmy Rave.

There was some scuttlebutt earlier this week over the related charity fundraiser between local punk rocker and Beatdown organizer Richard Haskins and Denton City Council member Deborah Armintor — the winner would get $500 donated to charity and the loser would get their head shaved on the spot. But after Armintor’s supporters objected to Haskins’ bad-boy reputation (and a history of playful, theatrical vulgarity) Armintor backed out.

Tickets cost $20 to $150 and are available through prekindle.
