Brickhouse Brown passes away

Brickhouse Brown passes away

Posted: Jul 20th 2018 By: Luke Graham, Jr.

In the pro wrestling business, it doesn't take long to learn that it really is a small business. It used to be smaller... before facebook and social media made it more easier to be aware of people and other things going on in the business.

If you were in the southern part of the U.S. in the last 35 years or so, at some point you ran into a guy named Brickhouse Brown. You could have run into him in any part of the country, but more easily in the south. Once you did... you would never forget the experience.

There are very few around wrestling, that have done any travelling that won't have a memorable experience with Brick. Some are funny. Some are serious. Some are "less than"... but all will be memorable. There were few that have been on par with Brick Brown when he was on a roll. He could and would talk the best stuff you would hear all month and keep you in stitches laughing... he knew he could get me wound up, even after I figured out he was ribbing me... but, we were always cool.

Brick ... a real talent... using every trick at his disposal to get over... and to get you over at the same time. A carpenter in the ring with a knowledge he has not minded sharing.

On top of that, he has been my friend... in and out of the ring. No, we did not hang out and party. We didn't visit each other's homes... but we tore up phone lines... especially in the last couple years. We knew each other well enough to call each other out on BS.. and to talk straight and candid.. and offer each other comfort and advice in tough times.

Brick was a great wrestler. He was a showman that has been maligned at times... talked himself into and out of good and bad deals... his shoot interviews... well...

But more than that, he has been a man that loved his family and kids... even when he didn't know how to properly show or express it. I was glad to know he got a lot of issues straightened out some in recent years. I was glad to know that he was trying to make amends for some missteps he made as a younger man. We discussed some of them in depth just 2 Fridays ago.. one of the relationships he was repairing was with God.

I was there when he committed his faith to Christ and asked God to forgive him. I was there when he received baptism. .. so, I have a belief that when he closes his eyes here, that he will open them in the presence of God.

Rest easy Fred. We will all miss you. It's ok to look up at the lights this time.
