Gold Slams Smooth, But Cannot Regain NAW Title
Posted: Jun 15th 2018 By: CMBurnham
Perhaps no one is more associated with The NAW Title than UWE United States Champion Dusty Gold.
The chiseled superstar has held that title twice, fending off challengers of all types. But fate caught up with him in May when Big Smooth, who had turned his back on Gold and the fans, captured the title for the first time. The monstrous 450+-pounder took great pride in removing the championship from the defined waist of Gold and slinging it over his shoulder.
One month later, as the monthly NAW event opened, Gold came out and took the microphone, calling out Big Smooth and demanding his rematch for the title. Smooth eventually answered the call and a back-and-forth heated discussion took place. Smooth repeated put over his size, power and belief that Gold could not pick him up. Gold acknowledged that the fans made him champion and with them behind him, he would regain that title. So NAW Commissioner Amanda granted Gold his rematch after the two got physical in the ring and the main event was made.
When it came time for that main event, Gold’s temper was apparent as he went straight to work on trying to beat down Smooth. While he kept the champion reeling, things went sour for him when he attempted to pick him up for a bodyslam. After that, Smooth took over and slowed the pace down, holding Gold in a bear hug to weaken the challenger and utilizing his veteran knowledge to keep the match under his control. With the fans firmly behind him, Gold was able to rally and attempt a second time to pick Smooth up, but again, the damage had been done to Gold’s back and Smooth went back to work for more punishment. Finally, mustering every bit of spare strength and determination that he had, Gold hoisted the gigantic champion and slammed him in the middle of the ring. Smooth, with a look of total shock on his face, immediately rolled to the outside to regain his composure. And when the count got to 6, Smooth decided that the best strategy was to walk away, so he grabbed his title belt and was eventually counted out by the referee. Gold won the match, but titles do not change hands on count outs, so Smooth remained the champion.
Gold was obviously unhappy with that and again addressed the commissioner, requesting one more match. But this time the match would need a stipulation. Something to keep Smooth from walking away like he did here. While Amanda confirmed that the match would happen on July 14th, she did not announce what the stipulation would be, which leaves many fans theorising. What could keep Smooth and Gold in the ring? Lumberjacks? An Indian Strap Match? Perhaps a Steel Cage? Or will Amanda go the simpler route and adjust the rules so that the title CAN change hands on a Countout? Whatever the decision, Gold is surely preparing every day. Because he wants to not only pick up Smooth once again, he also wants to hold that NAW Title proudly one more time!
