IWR’s Longhorn Stampede III to benefit LGHS Band

It’s not often a high school band program and a professional wrestling event go hand-in-hand.
But then again, the Lone Grove High School band program isn’t like most programs either.
Saturday night at the Lone Grove Middle School Gymnasium, the LGHS Band will be partnering with the Imperial Wrestling Revolution to present the third annual Longhorn Stampede event.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the Lone Grove band programs to support many aspects of the program including the annual band trip as well as other necessities which might be needed.
“This is my first year being in charge of the event, but it’s one of our largest fundraisers,” Lone Grove band booster president April Davis said. “With this event, it gives our kids a chance to work and earn credits towards our next band trip in 2019. We’ve been able to win numerous awards over the years by going on these trips and beating out other bands from across the nation.”
“The event will also raise funds for anything else the band program might need,” Davis added. “These things include new instruments, tutors, color guard uniforms, music scholarships for the seniors and so many other things.”
Perhaps the most ironic thing about the event Saturday night, is that a Lone Grove native will be in the main event, wrestling against one of his star pupils.
IWR CEO Jerry Bostic will lace up the boots and take on IWR Revolutionary Champion Chandler “The Truth” Hopkins in a steel cage match for the title.
The moment isn’t lost on Bostic, who is a proud former member of the Lone Grove color guard program, even serving as captain.
“Working with the band boosters annually is a healthy reminder of where I came from,” Bostic said. “Mrs. Hoffman, the former color guard director was someone who believed in me when not a lot of people did and she gave me a position of authority and pride as the color guard captain.”
“The Lone Grove show is always one of my favorite shows every year,” Bostic added. “There were so many teachers there that made a great impact on my life and I feel very thankful to have grown up in Lone Grove, Oklahoma.”
Members of the Arrow Club are also scheduled to appear at the event, along with “Iceman” King Parsona, Kamilla Kaine, and Violent Payne also scheduled to appear and wrestle at the event.
Bell time is scheduled for 7 p.m. with VIP entries allowed to enter at 5:30 p.m. with general admission entries allowed to enter when doors open at 6 p.m.
Adult tickets are $10 with kids general admission (12 & under) $5.
