NEWS
WWE announced at the 2017 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday night that this year’s Legacy Wing inductees were Haystacks Calhoun, Judy Grable, Farmer Burns, Rikidozan, June Byers, Dr. Jerry Graham, Toots Mondt, Bearcat Wright and Luther Lindsay.
Beth Phoenix and Edge were in attendance for WWE NXT's “Takeover: Orlando” on Saturday night.
Ric Flair was honored at Axxess on Thursday as Triple H unveiled the new bronze statue of Flair, a statue which shows the 16-time World champion in his prime. An emotional Flair was joined by his family in the ring as Triple H uncovered the large statue. Present also for this occasion were Shawn Michaels, Sting, Arn Anderson, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Stephanie McMahon, and The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson). News of Flair’s statue was leaked a few months ago when a male model posted on Facebook that he was chosen as the stand-in for Flair to pose so those in charge of creating the statue can capture his body. WWE has unveiled statues at previous year's Axxess of Bruno Sammartino, Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes, and Andre The Giant.
Triple H presented a statue to Ric Flair at "WrestleMania 33 Axxess" over the weekend. Charlotte Flair, Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson, and The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) were present for the reveal, as well as Flair’s family.
A new statue for WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was revealed at WrestleMania 33 Axxess last night in Orlando. Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Charlotte Flair, Sting, Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson, and others were in attendance. After the statue unveiling, Stephanie McMahon tweeted "The man who inspired my husband to become @TripleH, the one and only, a true legend & Hall of Famer, the incomparable @RicFlairNatrBoy". Triple H tweeted "It was my honor to reveal this statue of the one, the only...@RicFlairNatrBoy! #Respect #Axxess".
In the WrestleMania 33 opener, A. J. Styles defeated Shane McMahon. After the match McMahon said Styles really is phenomenal and it was honor being in the ring with him. McMahon called Styles a special talent and says he brought more than his A-game to the match. Regarding Styles going for the WWE Title, McMahon said he is sure he will get the shot and says there’s no denying him.
Forbes listed WWE’s 10 highest paid wrestlers for 2016, and Brock Lesnar was listed at #1 at $12 million. Others on the list include A. J. Styles at #6 at $2.4 million.
When asked what his plans were if he lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33, Goldberg tweeted "Taking a little time off to reflect then heading back to the gym". Goldberg's current WWE deal was set to expire after WrestleMania 33 and there’s been no confirmation on a new deal being signed.
Goldberg tweeted a message clarifying comments that he made about being "miserable" during his current WWE run on the Edge & Christian podcast. Goldberg had said that he was miserable due to the training that's required in his role but reiterated that his time in WWE since returning has been an awesome experience.
In professional wrestling, it’s very easy to make enemies. Eric Bischoff had a lot of enemies, but perhaps one of his biggest was Jim Cornette. And the feeling was pretty much mutual. But every year, WWE tapes a bunch of "Table for 3" episodes for the WWE Network when it’s WrestleMania time and they pick old timers to get back together and discuss a little wrestling over lunch. Michael Hayes revealed on Twitter that he just taped an episode of the WWE Network series with both Eric Bischoff and Jim Cornette, the first time that the two sat down and spoke in over 20 years. Bischoff once described Cornette as a “low rent con man” who is only capable of moving the Internet wrestling community and pretty muchdownplayed his storied career. Cornette obviously didn’t take it nicely and fired back at Bischoff, pointing out that the company Bischoff was in charge of (WCW) lost more money than any promotion he ever worked for in his career. The animosity between the two grew even stronger when Cornette was released from his TNA duties in 2010 just before Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were brought in.
Michael Hayes noted on Twitter that he filmed a “Table For Three” with Eric Bischoff and Jim Cornette. Hayes wrote "Just did Table for 3 with Bischoff and Cornette, 1st time Eric and Corny had spoke in over 24 years!!! Never been a Table for 3 like this!!!"
Jim Ross received a long standing ovation at the WrestleCon kickoff party, where he hosted a Q&A panel with Sting and Ric Flair. Ross’ wife Jan passed away two weeks ago but JR later confirmed on social media that he would be honoring all his commitments during this weekend, because that’s what his wife would have wanted. Ross mentioned how Jan was a big fan of this weekend, buying her Louis Vuitton apparel…with his money! When Ross was introduced by Matt Striker, JR said that the crowd was going to make him cry again. He said that he had some challenges last week or two…”but I’m here with you guys!” JR started crying again and the fans once again stood up to clap.. JR mentioned that the odds of everyone in this room being all together at next year’s WrestleMania are slim so he wants all of them to enjoy the show and the whole weekend. “I’m just glad
to be here,” Ross said. You can see the introduction from WrestleCon by clicking here.
Jim Ross returned to WWE TV at "WrestleMania 33" Ross reportedly signed a new deal with the company that will see him used for material on the WWE Network and occasional appearances on WWE TV to call matches. No word yet on how often Ross will appear on TV. The new deal was offered and signed before Ross’ wife Jan passed away earlier this month, perhaps as long as 5 weeks ago.
Jim Ross tweeted the following after making his WWE return to call Roman Reigns’ win over The Undertaker in the WrestleMania 33 main event: "It's always cool to hear #BoomerSooner at #Wrestlemania. 75,000+ heard my homage to @OU_Football tonight. I know Jan was watching. @WWE".
In his new podcast, Jim Ross revealed some more information about the passing of his wife Jan, who died after she was struck by a car while riding her scooter. Ross said that Jan was a minute away from their garage when the driver of the car, a 17-year-old, didn’t see her and ran her over. JR said that he will never forget the image of seeing his wife in that state in the emergency room at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center and the doctors were very honest with him about her chances of survival. “They didn’t want to be so negative, but they said it’s going to be challenging,” Ross said. He signed the papers so his wife could undergo surgery on Monday night to try and remove some of her skull so her swelling brain could have room. He said that doctors told him that even if she manages to survive, his wife would have never be the same. “We did all we could do but it just wasn’t enough,” he added. Her nearly 90-year-old father, brother, and sister all flew in from California just in time to see her “legally alive.” JR said that he will have the body cremated and placed in a Pittsburgh Steelers urn, which he will keep in his home. He said that he plans to do a memorial service at some point although he’s got to think about that first because at the moment he is “on autopilot.” The podcast is available to download now on PodcastOne.com.
Terry Funk did not appear in Orlando due to health issues that are preventing him from traveling.
