NEWS
WWE announced that Beth Phoenix will be inducted into their Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 33 weekend. She joins Kurt Angle, The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson), Teddy Long, and Dallas Page as inductees this year. She and her husband Edge become the first spouses inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Beth Phoenix was announced last Monday as the latest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2017. The exclusive for the news was given to USA Today. The 36-year-old New York native had a seven-year career in the WWE which started in 2004 as a developmental wrestler assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling. Her main roster debut came in May 2006 on an episode of "WWE Monday Night RAW", attacking Mickie James and coming to the rescue of Trish Stratus. A year later she was given the moniker of "The Glamazon" and returned on TV as a heel after a couple of months out injured. Phoenix, considered one of the best female wrestlers in the company at the time, then had an angle with Santino Marella, and feuded with the popular duo LayCool (Layla El & Michelle McCool) before making a run for the WWE Divas Title in the summer of 2011. Phoenix left the company in 2012, having her last match against A. J. Lee on an episode of "WWE Monday Night RAW" in October. In 2014, she welcomed her first daughter with WWE Hall of Famer Adam “Edge” Copeland and then had another baby girl in 2016. The couple married in October of last year. Edge and Beth Phoenix become the first married couple to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. During her time in WWE, she won the WWE Women's Title three times and the WWE Divas Title once along with a Slammy Award for Diva of the Year in 2008.

After WWE's announcement of Beth Phoenix's induction into their Hall of Fame, Triple H posted on Twitter "Before Queens, Bosses, Huggers, and Lass-Kickers...there was #TheGlamazon. Congratulations and welcome to the #WWEHOF @TheBethPhoenix!"

After the angle where Randy Orton turned his back on Bray Wyatt on last Tuesday's "WWE SmackDown Live", there was a segment on "Talking Smack" that furthered tensions between A. J. Styles and Shane McMahon with Styles still demanding to challenge for Wyatt's WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33.

WWE has announced Randy Orton vs. A. J. Styles for Tuesday’s "WWE SmackDown Live". The winner will go on to face WWE Champion Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33. As noted, Styles defeated Luke Harper last Tuesday to become the new #1 contender to Wyatt. SmackDown ended with Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton turning on Wyatt and announcing that he was coming for Wyatt and the title at WrestleMania.

IIn an interview with ESPN, WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens stated that Goldberg isn’t ready for a match with him. He said “I’ll answer this as honestly as I can, because that’s always the way I do things, and that answer is ‘No’. Because, see, ya know, anybody who’s followed Goldberg’s career, or even people who haven’t followed Goldberg’s career and have only been familiar with him for the last two or three months since he’s been back in WWE, guess what? You’ve already seen everything Goldberg can do. You’ve seen a spear, you’ve seen a jackhammer. That’s pretty much where it ends, but I’ve been here for about two years, and yet, I’ve only scratched the surface of what I can do and the people who have followed me, throughout my entire career, before I got to WWE will tell you that’s a fact. So, I don’t think Goldberg is ready for the kind of main event that I’m going to bring to him at Fastlane, absolutely not.”

Former WWE writer Brian Maxwell Mann posted on Twitter about Vince McMahon's love of Bill Goldberg. He posted "Vince got a hard on for bill during the Survivor Series build and hasn't thought about long term business since. I've known that finish was coming for 4 months and they still made it difficult to watch. @VinceMcMahon you know casual fans don't exist anymore right?"

Mad Magazine has a feature on how Linda McMahon will change the Trump Administration, such as that Trump will now be able to use the vast military knowledge of Sgt. Slaughter.

Even though Jack Swagger stated on Chael Sonnen’s podcast that he requested and was granted his release, WWE has yet to announce or confirm that, and he’s still considered a member of the active roster.

In a statement issued to PWInsider.com, WWE said that Jack Swagger has not been released from his WWE deal yet despite his announcement that he is out. “Jack Swagger has not been granted a release from his WWE contract. When he is granted his release, Jack Swagger will remain under exclusive contract to WWE for 90 days and will be compensated accordingly during that period,” the statement read. Swagger already booked himself for a show in the United Kingdom on March 10th, so even if he is released from his deal by that date, he cannot wrestle anywhere for 90 days following his official termination date. Swagger was supposed to wrestle Alberto El Patron in Norwich, England. The Oklahoma native announced that he is departing WWE earlier this week on Chael Sonnen's Beyond the Fight podcast.

While WWE has not confirmed Jack Swagger’s departure after he requested his release earlier this week, Cesaro tweeted the following thanks to his former partner, "Thanks Bog Hoss #WeThePeople".

Jack Swagger has been announced for a WAW indie show in the United Kingdom next weekend. The promotion is owned by Paige’s family. They announced today that Swagger will be facing former WWE rival Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio). We noted earlier that WWE issued a statement on Swagger, confirming that he is still signed to the company.

Regarding speculation that Jim Ross would be the mystery man at the TNA tapings, that wasn't the case as Ross was be in Thackerville, OK, with his wife, at the Bellator show. Ross and Bellator announcer Sean Grande are good friends and Ross is an MMA fan.

Jeff Jarrett’s idea appears to be to market the relaunch of his old promotion as “Let’s Make Impact Great Again” and to bury the Dixie Carter regime without specifically mentioning her by name on television. Moving forward, Jarrett’s plan is to conduct four days of television taping and shoot six episodes of "Impact Wrestling" at each taping.

There’s been a lot of talk about the company having a plan to officially discontinue the TNA name for this new era under Anthem and Jeff Jarrett.

TNA sent out a company wide email noting Dutch Mantell is now the head of the TNA creative team. John Gaburick, who previously held the position, is still with TNA, but he will be working from the Gorilla Position during tapings and will be offering advice to the creative team. He will no longer be a part of the decision making process from a creative standpoint.

Jeff Jarrett is now overseeing everything as Chief Creative Officer. It’s believed that Jarrett won’t be on TV anytime soon but that could obviously change. Longtime creative team member Matt Conway has left the company as has longtime employee Bill Banks, who also worked for WWE and ECW years back. Banks’ departure is reportedly not related to other company changes as he’s returning home to the Northeast part of the country to start a new chapter in his life, according to PWInsider.

Regarding the departures of Drew Galloway and The Hardy Boys, Jeff Jarrett took to Twitter and wrote the following. These tweets came before the news broke about Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett leaving the company. He tweeted "For the record, it's @IMPACTWRESTLING 's corporate policy not to make any comments on talent contractual matters….I personally wish nothing but continued success for @JEFFHARDYBRAND @MATTHARDYBRAND @GallowaySpeaks . All three of them are fantastic talent and wherever they land they will obviously do very well. Wrestling business can be tough at times, but one thing is for sure...the business is ALWAYS changing! Ready for @UniversalORL and can't wait for Thursday! #MIGA". These departures, especially the Hardys leaving, was Jarrett’s first major headache after taking back the reigns at TNA. Ed Nordholm, Anthem’s Executive Vice President, was said to be rather “cold” when it came to the Hardys and basically presented them a take it or leave it scenario, setting an example that everyone is replaceable in the company.

PWInsider reports that there is some quiet backstage grumbling among long time talent about the “new regime” just being used to get over wrestlers who are friends with Jeff Jarrett or work for his Global Force Wrestling.

Gail Kim was backstage at the most recent "Impact Wrestling" television tapings in Orlando, FL

It was mentioned early Thursday that Garza Jr. & Laredo Kid would be at Thursday’s "Impact Wrestling" TV tapings in Orlando, FL. On the latest "Podcast Boom", Konnan confirmed that and also said that he would be there as well. Anthem Executive Vice President Ed Nordholm tweeted out a pic of Alberto El Patron in the ring talking with Jeff Jarrett at Thursday’s "Impact Wrestling" TV tapings. Jeff Jarrett has welcomed Alberto El Patron to "Impact Wrestling", so he’s another new wrestler added to their roster. Jarrett since returning had planned on making changes to the promotion so that it would come across as something new and wouldn’t look like it has in the past.

Wrestling Observer reports Alberto El Patron, Garza Jr., Rachael Ellering, Kongo Kong, and Laredo Kid are coming in to TNA along with the likes of Konnan, Matt Morgan, Bruce Prichard, and perhaps Karen Jarrett.

Add Tanea Brooks (Rebel) to the list of those expected back in TNA this week.

Bruce Prichard will apparently only be a television character on "Impact Wrestling" and will not be involved in a backstage managerial role. He will also continue to host his successful podcast. Expect Prichard to be working with Bobby Lashley on television going forward.

It was announced at Friday’s "Impact Wrestling" tapings that the vacant TNA Tag Team Titles will be decided with a four-team tournament. The announcement was made by Bruce Prichard in a segment to air on the March 16th episode. Prichard said the tournament would be in two weeks from the night the segment airs. The four teams will be The Decay (Abyss & Crazzy Steve), The Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend), Laredo Kid & Garza Jr., and the returning Latin American Xchange (Homicide, Angel Rose, two unidentified wrestlers, and Konnan as the mouthpiece for the group). The TNA Tag Team Titles were declared vacant after Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy chose not to re-sign with the company. The brothers offered to come to last week’s tapings to drop the titles but company officials turned them down.

During his latest podcast, Vince Russo revealed that Jeff Jarrett contacted him last week via e-mail and inquired to see how many people listen to his podcast. Russo, who worked for WWE, WCW, and even TNA in creative, had no idea why Jarrett was asking for such numbers and then gave him his audience reach. Russo then said he was surprised to see later that Bruce Prichard was hired by TNA again based on the popularity of his podcast. Jarrett and Russo are big friends and he sounded disappointed that Jarrett did not reveal his true intentions of his original question. The man formerly known as Brother Love runs his very popular "Something To Wrestle" with Bruce Prichard podcast along with co-host Conrad Thompson.

The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Wichita Falls, TX announced that Mick Foley would be in attendance at the May induction ceremony to receive his ring as a part of the Class of 2017.

Vader recently appeared on "Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling" and commented on his recent grim tweet regarding his health. He said “I really kind of regret tweeting it out. In other words when I got diagnosed and was told, 'Leon, you have a bad heart and you have congestive heart failure and we feel your time is limited and you have maybe a couple of years left…two years or less to live'. I remember getting very angry and said this has got to be bulls–t because I don’t feel bad and I remember getting extremely angry. Since that time and when I got the news I left the hospital and went right to the gym and rode the bike for a half hour. Hard. As hard as I could and when I got off the bike and got on the treadmill and walked for another 15 minutes pretty hard and I was exhausted but my heart felt fine so how can I do that if my heart is going to give out? The doctor in some of the ongoing appointments that I had with him explained to me that when you are tipping the scales at 400 and 420-25 pounds that a man that size and that heavy isn’t supposed to be able to push himself in a cardiovascular endeavor no matter what it is much past 2 or 3 minutes.” On accepting his fate and still taking bookings to wrestle, he said “I kind of wish I hadn’t brought it up, and I am continuing to wrestle. Someone said, ‘Aren’t you afraid? Why would you get a booking (to wrestle) at this point when you’ve had this type of diagnosis?’ I said, ‘Brother, where would you rather die in a bed at home, or in the hospital, or would you rather die in front of 10,000 people having fun in the ring? So, if it’s true, if this doctor isn’t just totally full of sh*t which, that’s what I’m betting on, and I should say ‘these doctors’ at this point you know, that’s my choice, and that’s the way I decide to go out. If this thing’s gonna happen, I’d rather be in a ring, anywhere, compared to sitting in a hospital room in a hospital bed, sitting there like some sheep getting ready to be slaughtered. It’s not who I am, and it’s not the way it’s gonna happen with me.”

Headlocked Comics is doing a comic called Headlocked: The Hardy Way, featuring stories from Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and artwork from Jerry Lawler, Fred Ottman, and Lince Dorado.

The TV show "Billions" on Showtime had a scene where lead character Bobby "Axe "Axelrod, played by Damien Lewis, was compared to Ric Flair, with the line, "the only reason you put Ric Flair in the ring is to get that heat from the crowd."

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Tom Jones, who passed away from a heart attack on March 4th. He had been living in an assisted living centre in Amarillo, TX, suffering from dementia. He was 77 years old. Jones, whose real name was George Thompson, was born in Savannah GA. He never completed school and was raised by his grandmother on a farm. He would move to Indianapolis, IN to get a job in a factory, but was a regular attendee at the World Wrestling Association shows put on by Dick the Bruiser. Jones eventually started training and had his first match against Dick the Bruiser. Jones pioneered many opportunities for African-American wrestlers in Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arkansas. Working together with Sputnik Monroe, Jones helped to integrate wrestling stadiums. He was also on of the first black wrestlers to regularly tag with a white partner, forming a highly successful tag team with Billy Red Lyons in the early 1970s. On a national level, Jones' most high-profile matches came in the early 1980s when he competed under a mask as "Mr. Ebony" in WCCW. He would eventually be unmasked, but continued to use "Mr. Ebony" as a nickname. Jones has approximately 140 documented matches in Oklahoma. The earliest was March 24, 1969 where he defeated The Sundown Kid at a TSW show in Tulsa. The last saw Jones team with Martin Justice and Shawn Matthews III to defeat Thomas Knight, Josh Dakota & Rick Payne at a GPCW event in Cache, OK on May 31, 2008. Jones amassed many titles over his career around the country. In Oklahoma, his championship accomplishments certainly speak for themselves. As mentioned earlier, Jones tagged with Billy Red Lyons and won the TSW United States Tag Team Titles from The Spoilers on May 31, 1971. They would hold them until March 21, 1972, when they lost them to The Continental Warriors (Lorenzo Parente & Bobby Hart). Jones would later team with Ken Mantell and regain the US Tag Titles on August 21, 1972, but would only hold them one week before losing them to Terry Gavin & Duke Myers. Jones also had singles success, holding the TSW Heavyweight Title twice in either 1980 or 1981. He defeated Mr. Pogo for the title, then lost it back to him and regained it from him (the second reign was certainly in 1981). He lost it a final time to Mike George on February 28, 1981. He also held the TSW United States Junior Heavyweight Title, although the exact timeframe of that title reign is unknown. In the 1990s, when Power Zone Wrestling Association was the dominant wrestling company for the Oklahoma City area, Jones has documented reigns as both Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion in that federation as well, although again, the details on the timeframe are not known. His last known title run was sometime in 2002 when he and Bad Boy, tagging together as the Dogg Pound and were the NMS Tag Team Champions. For many of the last years of his time in Oklahoma City, Jones could be seen regularly attending the MSWA events as well as turning up sporadically at AACW & SWCW events in the Oklahoma City area. His openness and accessibility to the fans at these events benefitted both them and him and certainly added happiness to the latter years of his life. Perhaps the greatest legacy for Jones is the tremendous number of wrestlers that he had a hand in training. Most of the wrestlers active in Oklahoma City in the 1990s and early 2000s were trained by Jones at some point, which included his son Cody.
