Andre the Giant alcoholic; took 106 beers to get wrestler drunk according to Ric Flair

Many wrestling fans would know about Andre the Giant alcoholic whose drinking stories are the stuff of legends. It would seem that every WWE wrestler has a tale to tell about the iconic 7’4” titan, but the latest one from Ric Flair could possibly take the cake.

“He could drink. I was with him one night at the down-towner in Charlotte in 1975 and he drank a hundred and six beers,” shared Flair with Dan Le Batard. “I have been on a 747 with him going to Tokyo out of Chicago. (And) we drank every bottle of vodka on the plane.”

But could this really be the wildest Andre the Giant alcoholic story?

There have been other accounts of the wrestler consuming so much alcohol that it almost seemed inhumanly possible. One such story was shared by another WWE legend Hulk Hogan.

“I get a call. ‘Hey boss, I’m at the Tampa airport. I’ve got a one-hour layover.’ I was like okay, it’s fifteen minutes or so from my mom’s house. So I drive to the airport and I met him at the Delta Crown Lounge,” shared Hogan about Andre the Giant. “By the time we sat down, we had about 45 minutes before he had to walk to the next gate. He drank 108 12-ounce beers.”

The Giant was also known for drinking six bottles of wine before a match. Though sounding more like a ruse, Gerald Brisco has attested to this ritual by Andre.

“There are a lot of crazy stories about Andre that sound fake, but most are true, especially his drinking. Andre used to ask me to get him six bottles of Mateus wine and ice them down,” Brisco narrated. He would drink those before we went to the ring and no one could tell. One night in Sarasota, Andre is traveling with us. So we pull over and get two cases of tall boys. By the time we get from Sarasota to the Tahitian Inn on Dale Mabry, the two cases were bone dry.”

These are just some of many drinking stories about the Giant, but there are surely more waiting to be discovered.
