JR's Blog: Knockout Night at The D on CBS Sports Network, RINGSIDE Show in Toronto This Sunday Afternoon, UFC/MSG, Huge, Monday Night RAW, Kevin Kelly to TRR
Posted: Nov 15th 2016 By: Jim Ross
Another big week of exciting projects for yours truly that starts Friday night on the CBS Sports Network with Knockout Night at The D boxing at midnight Eastern time live from downtown Las Vegas. Then it's on to Toronto for the RINGSIDE with Jim Ross Show from The Second City in TO at 2:30 pm on Survivor Series Sunday afternoon. Don"t worry about the mules, just load the wagon.
Enjoyed our trip last week to Nashville at Zanies, a wonderful venue that's got great ownership and management, and where we had a full house Wednesday night. Good to see old friends like Jeff and Karen Jarrett, Josh Mathews and wife Madison Rayne, John Gaburick, George Weingroff, Tony Falk, and James Storm. I hope that I did not leave anyone out. Nashville delivered in a big way for which we are grateful.
We have some tickets left for this Sunday's RINGSIDE show in Toronto at ticketmaster.ca, www.livenation.com and at the Second City box office including the day of our event. The doors open at noon this Sunday for VIP ticket holders amd at 2 pm for everyone else with the show starting at 2:30 and being over by 4 pm to allow everyone attending the Survivor Series plenty of time to make the easy walk from our venue to the ACC. Hope to see you there if you are in Toronto for this bodacious weekend.
Excited to be working with Skyhorse Publishing on the 2017 release of our autobiography entitled 'Slobber Knocker' that will be on shelves in the fall of 2017. The brilliant writer Paul O'Brien is steering our ship on this one and I'm loving working with Paul on a regular basis to address every word and every sentence much to our mutual dismal at times.
Enjoyed UFC 205 from MSG Saturday night on PPV but would have loved for the event ot have started on PPV a hour earlier. For the main event featuring Conor McGregor to go into the octagon well after 1 am in NYC was a bit late for me as I started my day at 8 am Saturday with OU having an 11 am kickoff. Nonetheless, UFC produced a strong show with a few minor but noticeable and positive production tweaks which helped the broadcast.
McGregor is the "King of the World" right now and would likely be on top of WWE's 'hit list' to be a future Wrestlemania celeb participant. He'd likely cost them "Tyson Money" to get the deal done but it's obvious that the talented Irishman is a businessman who covets the big money. Nothing wrong with that by the way, Plus, Conor sells tickets and PPV's.
Miesha Tate announced her retirement from UFC competition Saturday night and I immediately thought she would be a interesting opponent for Charlotte, etc, in a major WWE event like Wrestlemania, etc. Tate has a great look with ample sex appeal. is a talented athlete who has earned significant name identity within the MMA world that could be of value in marketing any appearance she might have in WWE.
Tough road trip for my Oklahoma Sooners this weekend in Morgantown, West Virginia as OU battles WVU in a HUGE, Big 12 conference showdown. I hope to find a spot in Toronto to catch at least some of the game.
I'm told that my presence made the final edit of the upcoming ESPN 30 for 30 documentary even though I wasn't interviewed for the much anticipated feature. I loved my entire experience working in the XFL with a variety of partners and assignments all the while still handling all my responsibilities with WWE including my administrative duties and my work as a broadcaster. It made for some hellacious weeks of long hours and crazy travel but I loved every minute of it. My friends that have screened the show say it is "very well done," I can't wait to see it.
Huge Monday Night Raw this week as Goldberg, Lesnar and Heyman will all be on the show I'm told. Anxious to see where WWE places these three on the show but it seems like it could easily go on last as it should certainly hold the audience or so I think. If it can't hold the audience, there there is a problem, right?
Still continue to read where some pundits and fans are growing impatient regarding how fast WWE is establishing their new, Cruiserweight division. I need to see more of the talents outside the ring and to get to know those that actually possess a personality suitable for prime time TV. I am all for his grouping of athletes but many folks need to simply develop that rare trait known as patience when dissecting this matter.
Much like the brand split, I think that it will be April 2 in Orlando at Wrestlemania before we can truly and intelligently evaluate the success, or not, of that venture. When we see what each brand donates to the WM33 card, we will be better suited to declare our thoughts on the brand separation....at least that's my two cents.
