JR's Blog: Finn, Morton & Sydal Killing ROSS REPORT, @CMPunk, @UFC Joe Silva Leaving, ESPN/Owens Disrespect

Posted: Sep 3rd 2016 By: Jim Ross

It's game week in Norman, Oklahoma as my Oklahoma Sooners football team travels to Houston to open their 2016 season versus the highly regarded Houston Cougars and I will be there to support my team. The Sooners are favored by 11 which is too much in my opinion against a team that was 13-1 last year and are playing their biggest, most high profile home game in their program's history in the 'neutral' site that's home of the Houston Texans. There will likely be a black hat sighting Saturday on ABC for this highly anticipated opening game.

We are getting great feedback on this week's The Ross Report with guests Finn Balor, Ricky Morton, and Matt Sydal as all three of our guests brought something unique to the show that is free to listen to at podcatone.com and iTunes plus you can listen here on our site by simply going to the homepage and making just one click.

Remember that you can subscribe to The Ross Report for FREE at iTunes and they will automatically download our show each week into the device of your choice and you will never miss a show or have it delivered late. This is a free service and it helps us a great deal. Thanks

Doing ample media for the CM Punk UFC debut at UFC 203 vs Mickey Gall. Even though many feel that Punk has zero chance of winning his first ever pro fight in the Octagon, I maintain that Punk will be prepared, focused and ready to fight and the fact that four ounce gloves are great equalizers so that any thing can happen. One can assume that most die hard UFC fans are motivated to see Punk go down...early and decisively...but knowing Punk's dogged mental attitude I can't automatically count him out. Punk is being featured prominently in the promotion of the event and his presence will help sell PPV's, without question.

The MMA people that have talked to me seem to quietly want to Punk to lose or so it seems to me.

Wishing Alberto Del Rio the best of luck upon ADR leaving WWE for the second time by my count. Talented guy without question who has seemingly not found what he's looking for in a promotion and at some point one has consider reevaluating one's priorities and game plan. Perhaps I'm wrong but there seems to be an abnormal amount of controversy surrounding this talent who still has plenty to offer a pro wrestling company if the table is set correctly for all involved.

I hope that the ADR story has a happy ending for all involved but for some reason that option doesn't seem like a lay up. Remember that when talents leave a company is is more often than not because of one of the two C's, creative and cash.

Following the non news this week of Tim Tebow trying to get a MLB gig after not playing baseball since high school, more non news incudes the breaking story that Eva Marie "died her hair black."

Really?

John Cena's outside the WWE interests ae a good thing for all involved as it allows the talented Cena to explore other viable career options but more importantly it motivates WWE to continue to strive to see who on their roster can get over to the next level that includes selling more live event tickets, merchandise and can move the needle as it relates to TV ratings.

There is plenty of FREE content on the FITE TV App for fans of pro wrestling, MMA, and boxing. The app is free and with plenty of free content to enjoy, what have you got to lose?

UFC matchmaker/booker Joe Silva is apparently leaving the company after many years of amazing service to the brand. If UFC's 'booking' at times resembled that of a talented, pro wrestling booker it was because Joe was a long time pro wrestling fan in the Mid Atlantic territory and followed the booking of men like George Scott, among others.

Next week Tommy Dreamer joins me on The Ross Report podcast on a show that drops on Tuesday night at 9ET/6PT. The Innovator of Violence is now a promoter of the House of Hardcore and he has plenty to say. You will love this show.

If ESPN really made fun of Kevin Owens son celebrating and reacting to KO's Universal Title win, its puzzling, disheartening and indicates that, hopefully, only a minority of ESPN on air talents have such disdain for pro wrestling that they feel good about dissing a small boy who's proud of his father's professional accomplishments. If these mental pygmies have such issues against rasslin what else that truly matters in life do they protest against behind the scenes?

Many within the media's pro wrestling bias is wearing thin but seems that it has lessened to some degree. It's really about time that main steam sports people back away from their own insecurities and predictable disrespecting of an entertainment entity. That storyline has long since played out. I've lived with this issue for years and have little patience for it.

Not fair for fans to knock WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose for his match against Baron Corbin on Smackdown Live as Corbin isn't quite ready for prime time while admittedly having a discernable upside some time down the road. Corbin needs months of 10-15 minute matches at live events versus talents that are better than him.

WWE doing a great job of featuring the Cruiserweights on the WWE Network during the CWC. Good, old school logic is being utilized more often that not which emphasizes the fundamentals of performing a pro wrestling match. The wrestling business in general is often times over thought but seemingly not on WWE's presentation of CWC.
