The Scoop

NEWS
A huge indy convention in Duluth, GA took place on Saturday. Among the names advertised were Paul Orndorff, Ted DiBiase, Nikita, Koloff, Barry Windham, Dutch Mantell, Larry Zbyszko, Masked Superstar, Tracy Smothers, B. Brian Blair, One Man Gang, Ted Oates, Joyce Grable, and Ronnie Garvin. They also adviertised matches featuring Smothers, Blair, and Joel Deaton. The wrestling show itself only drew 130 people. The promoter, Greg Greene, did not have the money to pay for talent appearing nor the hotels where the talent was staying despite saying he had a $10,000 advance. Del Wilkes and Arn Anderson drove the promoter to get his check book where he started writing checks. The checkbook being used belonged to the promoter's elderly parents and they were contacted at about 2am by local law enforcement. The sheriff then said if any of the checks bounce there would be a warrant for the promoter's arrest. Ricky Steamboat did not appear as he was told by Tully Blanchard about the situation. Wilkes was paid in cash. Several stars left without being paid, including Windham who drove himself from his home in Clearwater, FL. The money from the house show tickets was split among the wrestlers that worked the show. Most of the ones appearing on the fan fest did not get paid.
There will be a "Legends with JBL" show at 9pm on Friday night on the WWE Network with Sting as the guest.
The rumors keep spreading like wildfire that one of the biggest names in wrestling history, Goldberg, will be making an appearance at "SummerSlam" this coming Sunday. The former WCW champion has not appeared on WWE television since "WrestleMania XX" in 2004 in New York. On that night, he defeated Brock Lesnar with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as the special referee. That match spelled the end of both Lesnar's and Goldberg's WWE careers and the crowd inside Madison Square Garden showed no mercy towards the two. Goldberg was revealed as the surprise playable character in this year's WWE 2K17 video game. All those who appeared in the game as a surprise character lately, Lesnar, Sting, and Ultimate Warrior, all eventually returned for on-air roles. He will be part of a 2K event this Friday in New York to officially launch WWE 2K17. Late last month a user on the Reddit SquaredCircle forum said that when "SummerSlam" goes off the air, we will all remember it for one reason: Goldberg. The rumors are that he will somehow be involved in Lesnar's match, kicking off another feud between the two. Goldberg cost Lesnar his WWE World Title in 2004 when he interfered in the Lesnar/Guerrero match, a match which Guerrero won. At this point, his "SummerSlam" appearance is strictly rumored and nothing is confirmed that something is happening with him apart from attending the WWE event on Friday. Goldberg has been quite vocal against WWE over the past several years and a return for him would have been classified in the "when hell freezes over" category at the time. He often said that he would love to wrestle one more match so his son can see him in the ring live for the first time.
WWE uploaded a video of Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar taunting Bill Goldberg for the WWE 2K17 video game. "I think everyone should stand up and applaud Bill Goldberg for being a supporting player in the video that stars the beast, the conqueror, Brock Lesnar," Heyman says in his typical fashion. "Hey Bill," Lesnar says, "You're next!" The video will certainly spark more rumors about Goldberg's involvement at "SummerSlam" and what could be the start of Goldberg vs Lesnar II, 12 years after the original one fell flat at WrestleMania XX. You can watch the video by clicking here.
Since this has been kind of overplayed in the rumor mill department, Bill Goldberg was always expected to be at the 2K Sports media party on Friday night in New York once the deal was made for him to be a key figure in marketing the video game. He's not coming to New York for WWE, but for 2K. Now, given WWE's affiliation with the media party, it is very possible there could be some talk with people in WWE, but his coming isn't anything more than one of a number of media appearances agreed to in his video game deal. Goldberg will be coming in from the GamesCon, the biggest game show in the world, on Thursday in Cologne, Germany, where he's also represented 2K Sports.
CBS Radio has announced a special Taz show, Sunday night from 11pm to 2am after "SummerSlam" with Jim Ross, Cody Rhodes, and Mike Johnson as guests.
Figures Toy Company released a photo of the first ever action figures for The Young Bucks. The figures for Nick and Matt Jackson are part of the Rising Stars of Wrestling series set for a release date sometime this fall. Future releases include A. J. Styles and Doc Gallows, both of whom committed to deals before signing with WWE. Kenny Omega, Joey Ryan, and Brian Myers are among others also getting action figures in the future.
