Posted: Aug 12th 2016 By: Jim Ross
Greetings to all and thanks for stopping by our site. Really pleased with the feedback many of you have provided on this week's The Ross Report podcast with two, amazing guests Ricochet and Sheldon Benjamin joining us for the first time. If you subscribe for FREE to The Ross Report on iTunes every show will be downloaded into the device of your choice automatically every Tuesday night at 9 PM ET and you will not miss a single show. We are grateful for your support.
Jumping back into the PPV broadcasting marketplace in October for What Culture Pro Wrestling for their huge event coming to Newcastle at Domain entitled 'Refuse to Lose' on October 6. This will be the first PPV that I've broadcast since Wrestle Kingdom 9 in Tokyo for New Japan Pro Wrestling. What makes it even better is that it's in the UK where the fans are second to none, I will be working with my old broadcast partner, Jim Cornette, and the show is shaping up to be a terrific, pro wrestling event with some amazing in ring talents set for action.
Excited to see the likes of the great, Kurt Angle, the Grandson of a Plumber Cody Rhodes and the sensational, ROH World Champion Jay Lethal among many other outstanding mat stars. More details on this event are coming soon and I encourage all fans who can join us live to do so in Newcastle or on PPV as this will be a memorable night for sure.
Working with Jim Cornette will be a blast as we had some exceptional nights at the announce table over the years and I'll bet some BBQ sauce that we won't miss a beat in October. JC and I wil also be doing a Q&A in London the night before the wrestling event and info on that event that is sure to sell out will be coming soon.
My thanks to What Culture Pro Wrestling for inviting me to be a part of their big event as I can't wait to return to the United Kingdom.
Just a quick reminder that tickets for our two shows during Wrestlemania weekend in Orlando will go on sale the day after Summer Slam on Monday August 22 at www.ticketfly.com. This year in Dallas we sold out three shows at the House of Blues plus the VIP meet and greet tickets sold out the first day of the on sale. There will be only 100 VIP tickets per show so I suggest that you get them early if you can. Other tickets start at $25 for our shows that will be held at Plaza Live.
Circle the date of Monday August 22, the day after Summer Slam, for the first day of ticket sales for our Wrestlemania shows in Orlando and available only at www.ticketfly.com.
We have major plans for our activities in Orlando in conjunction with Wrestlemania and I hope that you will join us. Our Plaza Live shows will both be matinees on Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2 with doors opening at noon and the shows starting each day at 2 pm which makes is a slam dunk to attend other events later in the day including the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and Wrestlemania itself.
Head scratcher...if Damien Sandow is a surprise participant on the live episode of Impact Wresting Thursday night on Pop TV then why was his interview with Rolling Stone released in advance of that event? I know that it will "create more news" and a bit of a buzz but wrestling fans love surprises and this press release, in essence, doesn't do the surprise element any favors. Nonetheless, Aaron Stevens aka Damien Sandow is a talented performer and will be a welcomed addition to the TNA team. Good signing.
Really nice bout on WWE Cruiserweight Classic Tournament Wednesday night with Cedric Alexander and Kota Ibushi. Alexander is especially an attractive prospect for WWE as he speaks English which gives him the slight nod over Ibushi IMO. Don't get me wrong, Ibushi is a young star in the making and WWE would be well served to sign them both and likely will. Paul Levesque won't allow these two talents to slip by him for sure. Both would make great additions to NXT especially in light of the recent call ups from NXT to the main roster.
Bravo to WWE for apparently having all clean finishes in their Melbourne, Australia live event. Companies who have discounted ie cheap disqualification or count out finishes at live events especially in markets that are promoted sparingly are doing their fans a disservice IMO.
Remember that the ROH PPV Death Before Dishonor Friday night 19 will be available worldwide on the FITE TV App and all you need is a smart device and WiFi to access the show. I'm thinking that this will be a great in ring, pro wrestling show and one that I'm anxious to watch on the FITE TV App.
My recent blog post on the Conor McGregor working the workers in the pro wresting biz made it to the UK Sun which is one of my favorite publications to read for international news and entertainment. Check it out as this is the third blog that I have written and posted on this site this week.
I find it refreshing that @WWE is gong to likely include LGBT content in future storylines. It's the world that we live in and all people of all races, colors, creed, religious persuasion and sexual orientation should be respected. That's about as political as you will hear me get in this space.
That is other than to say "This is the best that we've got?" as it relates to the presidential election in the USA.
Interesting comments made this week by Dean Ambrose and by Daniel Bryan regarding Brock Lesnar being "lazy." If true, and I'm not saying that it is as I'm not around Lesnar whatsoever, could it be because Brock is residing the dreaded "comfort zone" which is an area that adversely affects professional careers in many fields and certainly negatively affects relationships of all kinds?
The next time Lesnar and Ambrose are booked together should be most interesting.
