Barry Darsow Shoots On The GAB's Return, Demolition Memories, Gimmicks, & More

Posted: Jul 23rd 2007 By: mikeiles

Barry Darsow was welcomed to the Monday Night Mayhem airwaves. The Big Mosh brings up that The Hardy Boyz are the second greatest tag team, to of course Demolition -- to which Blade even concurred the fantasy warfare between the two teams would be "a classic." In response to him & his partner of many years, Bill "Demolition Ax" Eadie, said "would have loved to face The Hardys...they would have been ten-star matches."

Barry is very excited for the NWA Legends Fan Fest, he will enjoy seeing his old friends in the wrestling business.

This past Sunday night saw the WWE Great American Bash make its return to PPV. In response to how World Wrestling Entertainment has presented the event since its return a few years ago, Barry believes that The Bash "has lost it's touch." Dusty Rhodes was one of the greatest minds, making & producing the shows. "Now the matches don't mean as much... back then bad guys truly were bad guys, and good guys were truly good guys."

Mosh asked Barry if he would have ever though that Demolition would still be over, even after he had given up tag team wrestling, Barry believed positively without a shadow of a doubt -- "Yes I did...we could work a great match with everyone, even if they were big or smaller teams."

Mosh & Blade brought up the fact that the Demolition theme music was very popular back in the 80's & is still popular today. The Mayhem Crew asked what went through Barry's head when that music started to play right before a match. Barry answered by saying "it gave him goose bumps every time he walked to the ring."

Barry still remembers his legendary match at WrestleMania VI against Andre the Giant & Haku, and becoming WWE World Tag Team Champions. Barry said he was "honored" when he was on the same card as Hulk Hogan -- because if you were, you knew you were going to get a very big pay-day." It was "even better" for him being in a co-main event tag team match at WrestleMania in Toronto's SkyDome.

Blade & Mosh asked Barry if he could "carry" anyone of today's WWE's finest "gimmick" wrestlers (from The Great Kahli to The Boogeyman) in a match, and Barry says he could "carry" them all.

To close out the interview, Mosh asked Barry if he could see federal legislation stepping in on the wrestling business. Barry responded by saying that he does not think so. He said Vince McMahon & the then-WWF tested him a few times each week. He does not know how testing works these days -- but if the performers choose to use steroids, it is under their own discretion. Also, if the federal government stepped in, "the wrestlers would find a different way...possibly using growth hormones."

All of this & more can be found in this near 40-minute interview on The Mayhem: including more of Barry's uncensored thoughts on his "legendary" King Of The Road Match in WCW against Dustin Rhodes, working with The Ultimate Warrior, & much more!

Barry, along with many other stars of past & present (including Lex Luger, Nikita Koloff, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, "The Phenomenal" A. J. Styles, "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe, "The Instant Classic" Christian Cage, & others) will be in Charlotte, NC for the NWA Legends Fan Fest (August 10-12th).
