Canadian Red Devil Wins Golden Opportunity For ComPro Title With Stampede Victory
Posted: Jul 28th 2016 By: Michael Hunt
In professional wrestling, opportunity is everything.
2016 has seen the competition for the ComPro Title step up quite a bit. Richie Adams has certainly been a fighting champion since regaining that title on February 13, 2016. And with the roster of ComPro seemingly increasing on an almost weekly basis, Adams finds himself having to be prepared for just about anyone.
For the past two months, the primary challengers for the ComPro Title seem to have been Urn Stokes, Lockdown and The Canadian Red Devil. Adams has faced Stokes on multiple occasions and even faced all three competitors in a Fatal 4-Way match, which he was victorious in. But those 3 continue to circle like vultures, waiting for an opportune moment.
Only July 15th, Stokes faced CRD to determine the #1 contender to Adams and while it appeared that CRD had been victorious, that decision was reversed and Stokes once again was named #1 contender. This frustrated CRD even more, as he has been trying to regain the ComPro Title which he has not held in almost 2 1/2 years. And the frustration has led CRD to doing very uncharacteristic things, resulting in interference by CRD in matches involving Adams and vice-versa. ComPro Co-Commissioner C. M. Burnham had to mediate a summit between the two stars and get a public assurance from both that they would not be continuing that line of behaviour.,
So, understandably, all those people, and 36 more, saw the annual Oklahoma Stampede as their Golden Ticket to the top. The Stampede is a Gauntlet Battle Royal where wrestlers enter every minute. The last competitor standing would face Richie Adams at the ComPro 10th anniversary event on August 26, 2016.
It was not exactly a good draw for CRD as he entered at #13. This meant that he had to last more than half of the event if he was going to win. Stokes came in at #35 & Lockdown at #37. Given the size and brutality of Lockdown, it certainly seemed like he would be the odds on favourite, even though he was not #40.
One of the more surprising moments came when MSWA Ladies Champion Skylar Slice entered the match. As dominant as Slice as been since her wrestling debut, she was certainly just as angry over the upset victory over her by Phoebe earlier that evening. And she took that anger out on every competitor in the ring, hoping to become the first woman to win an Oklahoma Stampede. She even eliminated Giganto and pulled off some teamwork with La Familia member (and newly crowned ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion) Nathan Estrada before being eliminated. Other surprise entrants included Dillon Andrews (one of the members of ComPro ringside security) and ComPro ring announcer Tuck Davion, who shocked the world by eliminating Brandon Groom before his subsequent elimination.
In the end, it came down to 4 men, Canadian Red Devil, Lockdown, Gavin Dixon and Wade Argento. Dixon and Argento looked to try and use some teamwork to eliminate Lockdown, but were caught by surprise when Estrada ran back into the ring and dumped both of them over the top rope. This left CRD and Lockdown, certainly a mismatch in size and with Lockdown considerably fresher, this looked to be a no-win scenario for CRD.
Calling on all of his 12 years of experience, CRD tried to run Lockdown around the ring to tire him out. This did not work the way he hoped and Devil found himself up against the ropes as Lockdown charged in. Devil pulled down the top rope, but Lockdown was able to keep from tumbling over the top and the match continued. With Lockdown in a precarious position, CRD tried to use leverage by grabbing the legs of Lockdown and upending him over the top, but that did not work. The massive size and determination of Lockdown did not seem like it was going to allow any kind of mistake and it was going to take a superhuman effort from CRD to accomplish his goal.
At that point, CRD took a big risk. Going out onto the apron, CRD locked a front-face lock on Lockdown and began to pull down, Doing everything he could to employ leverage and physics, CRD continued to muscle Lockdown until there was no going back. At that point, the giant toppled over the ring onto the floor and a nearly unconscious CRD was declared the winner.
CRD now knows that he and Adams have a date with destiny on Auust 26th. As the only 2 men to have held the ComPro title 3 separate times, this match will certainly be an historical event. Between now and then, fans can expect both men to continue to compete at the highest level and to prepare like never before.
Because opportunities like this sometimes only come around once.
