Romero Contreras Interview Recap

Romero Contreras Interview Recap

Posted: Jul 19th 2007 By: CMBurnham

Romero Contreras was on the John Gibson radio show Tuesday defending wrestling fans. John had played a sound clip of one over-zealous male fan who had been crying, and saying, "I just want to thank you guys for putting your bodies on the line every night! Boo-hoo-hoo" and John Gibson said (not EXACT quote, but close) "If you're a full grown man, and you enjoy watching pro wrestling, then you're an idiot." Romero called in and said "Well, WWE is one of the most watched prime time shows, so that must mean there are a LOT of idiots out there. Also I know for a fact that the WWE goes over to entertain the troops, so, are you calling our troops idiots?" Then John Gibson said, "Well, no. I'm not saying THAT. But, tell me Romero, do things ever go off the script? Because if they do, that would at least give it some validation as a real sport." Romero said, "Yes, on occassion. This is what we call a shoot." John asked, "Has that ever happened where you work?" And Romero replied, "Yes. An example was during a battle royal style match, a guy decided he didn't want to lose, so he didn't go out when he was supposed to. So, a few guys from the back got sent out to handle the situation." John Gibson said, "Well, Romero, you seem like a very educated person..." Romero said, "More wrestlers are than you would think." And then John was going to ask him something else, but at this time Romero went under a bridge and lost the signal on his cell phone. When John found out that Romero got disconnected, he thanked him for calling in and said that Romero had convinced him that not ALL wrestling fans were idiots... only fans like this guy: (and then he played the clip of the crying fan again). After that, he more or less went to a commercial, and when he came back, he'd changed the topic.
