A. J. Styles: "Roman Reigns is the guy for the job right now"

A. J. Styles has been in the WWE for just a few months since his debut at the Royal Rumble and is currently embroiled in a feud with fellow veteran Chris Jericho.

When he entered the Rumble, the Phenomenal one came face-to-face with then-WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, who is seeking to retain his title in the main event of WrestleMania 32 against Triple H.

"I think that Roman Reigns is the guy for the job right now," Styles told Digital Spy and other journalists when asked about the current number one contender.

"I think him and Triple H are going to tear it up at WrestleMania. It's a very exciting match that I think a lot of people wanna see.

"And who knows when him and I may run in together, but when we do it'll be a great thing."

Recalling his debut, Styles said: "I was in shock. I honestly could not believe it.

"Before I walked out I was just hoping that someone in the WWE Universe would know who I was, and it turns out there was a lot of fans that knew exactly who I was.

"It was very exciting to walk through and walk down the aisle and the fans going nuts, the WWE Universe going absolutely bonkers over it. It was a great feeling and what a way to start in the WWE."

He added: "There was speculation that I was going to be in the Royal Rumble but no-one really knew.

"The fact that they were able to keep that quiet in a world where nothing's kept a secret was pretty awesome."

Of why he came straight to the main roster and bypassed NXT, Styles said: "When it comes to making the decision or not on whether I was going to go there, that wasn't up to me.

"I wasn't able to make that decision. But I'm very happy to be on the main roster."

He continued: "At the same time, it's only a matter of time before I'm working with guys who are part of NXT. Some of them I've actually worked with before.

"It's just a matter of time before NXT guys are moved up to the main roster and we get to have those incredible matches."

Asked which NXT talent he would like to face, Styles said: "I don't think it's just me that would love to see Finn Balor and us in the ring... I think he's been great.

"He's the perfect guy [to be holding the belt]. And he's doing a wonderful job. He's not the only reason NXT is doing so well but he's definitely a big part of it.

"With Samoa Joe and a lot of the other guys down there. And Shinsuke Nakamura on his way - it's just unbelievable."

AJ Styles was the third leader of the Bullet Club in New Japan Pro Wrestling, replacing founding member Prince Devitt, who of course now wrestles as Finn Balor in WWE.

Amid rumours that Balor could resurrect the Bullet Club in NXT or WWE, Styles was asked if he could see himself once more leading a stable.

"A leader of a group? Well you never know when that might happen," he replied.

"You just never know who you're going to team up with and everything fits the way it should and you have a group that's unbelievable.

"So you never know. I could definitely see something like that happening."

Asked who else he would like to face after he's done with Jericho, Styles said: "As far as dream matches go, that's not a question that's up to me.

"That's up to the fans, who they think is the dream match. If they want to see a dream match I'd be willing to give them whoever they want me to wrestle - that's a question for them."

He continued: "There have been so many greats. So many great champions that people have even forgotten about.

"But I do believe that Seth Rollins and I would be able to tear the house down - then again there's a lot of champions that I'd be able to do that with."

Styles added: "I would love to wrestle Nakamura again and I think he's going to do really well in the WWE. I think it's the perfect place for him."

When it was suggested that he and Kevin Owens could rekindle their past battles, Styles said: "I think in good time after hopefully I'm done with Jericho.

"Then I go after a title and if it's around Owens's waist then I'm going to go after it.

"Kevin and I have wrestled before so we know each other very well, so it's easy for us to get in the ring and do great things."

AJ Styles has challenged Chris Jericho to a match at WrestleMania 32, which you can watch live on the WWE Network this Sunday night, April 3.
