JR's Blog: Lance Russell on Ross Report Podcast Garnering Huge #'s, HIAC, US Title, @HOBDallas, Order JR's Online, Governor Ventura, Tyler Breeze, Taz Show

Posted: Oct 24th 2015 By: Jim Ross

Greetings to all and thanks for stopping by our site. Busy weekend upcoming with the Sooners hosting the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 Conference game that's loaded with personal issues to add to the already 'must win' scenario with which every contending team in the Big 12 has to endure. Our podcast this week, headlined by a visit from the legendary, pro wrestling broadcaster Lance Russell, is one of my favorite shows and apparently yours too as the downloads on this one have been off the charts. Dan Murphy of @PWI is with us as well and we discuss he process that PWI utilizes to select their list for the annual, PWI500. Download our shows for FREE at podcastone.com and iTunes plus you can listen to the Ross Report podcast here on the home page of our site.

WWE has a golden opportunity, no pun intended, to do some water cooler talk-like business this Sunday at the HIAC event in Los Angeles in the US Title Open Challenge offered up by the title holder John Cena. The table is perfectly set for a challenger to take a giant step in becoming much more relevant if they defeat John Cena for the United States Title. Cena is and will remain WWE's biggest, full time star no matter the outcome of Sunday's US Title match but what Cena can do is elevate a talent into the much needed main event sphere of WWE. With Cena stepping away from WWE for a few weeks to apparently tape a new TV show for Fox, or so I'm hearing, giving another wrestler the 'rub' elevates the new champion and gives Cena a destination, if desired, when he returns.

I'd love to see WWE take a bold more on this matter come Sunday notwithstanding taking other calculated risks to move additional talents up the ladder. It's not an impossible feat if one has the courage to pull the trigger and try a new, creative approach. How about Samoa Joe getting the valued, Cena 'rub?'

Been asked a lot about the outcome of the Lesnar vs. Taker match inside HIAC Sunday and I see Brock winning. Could there be a strong piece of creative waiting in the wings for this match? Will another competitor, or more, get involved? Could Lesnar AND Taker both be left down at the end of Sunday's show or does that simply defy logic? That could help 'make' multiple heels to a large degree. If Lesnar wins and there is an opportunity, do the two warriors shake hands at the end of their battle? No matter the extracurricular stuff than may transpire, I've got Lesnar winning the match.

In pro wrestling, there are many ways to do something right and the thankless job of doing pro wrestling creative in today's marketplace has never been more challenging but I suggest that what's old is new again so going back ot the basics IE loading the heat on a heel faction or simply individual heels seems timely for WWE. No company ever had a strong run or found significant success without great heels on their roster as the antagonists are the straws that stir the drinks in the grappling game.

Enjoyed antagonist, Tyler Breeze's debut Thursday night on Smackdown and the Lance Storm Wrestling Academy product has some viable, old school traits that WWE should be able to monetize. Would WWE be so bold as to have Breeze upset John Cena to become the new WWE Champion Sunday in LA? Stranger things have happened in the biz over the years.

Enjoyed being on the Taz Show this morning. Check it out Monday-Friday at 7-9 am ET on www.tazshow.com. Taz also had James Storm on the show who's weighing what his next professional move may be. I'd suggest to the Cowboy to get a jersey and get in the WWE game and let his game do the talking. Don't allow one's self to get old and then say, "What if?"

Contrary to most folks's thinking, I could have stayed at WCW in 1993 but taking a shot with WWE was too good an offer to turn down and ended up being the smartest move I ever made in my professional career. 21 great years in WWE and I left with no regrets or remorse.

Good lesson to learn....carry no unnecessary negatives with you on life's journey.

Next week on the Ross Report Podcast my guest will be Mike Johnson of @PWInsider and we will review WWE Hell in a Cell plus talk about other timely news items from the world of rasslin'. Mike is an exceptional guest who brings a great deal of knowledge to our show each time that he joins us. A new Podcast drops EVERY Tuesday night at 9 ET on podcastone.com and iTunes where you can subscribe to our show for FREE and get it downloaded automatically into the device of your choice.

Great time to have Roman Reigns get a definitive win over Bray Wyatt in the 2nd, HIAC match Sunday, or first if you're thinking the order of events, and then not beat Roman again leading into Wrestlemania Texas. That's Reigns best chance to 'get over' as a star heading into Texas in April 2016.

We are hopeful to have ticket info for my multiple shows at @HOBDallas during WM32 weekend. We want to have tickets on sale next week via ticketmaster.com and starting at $20 while they last. This series of shows wll be called, 'RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross and Friends' and will be held on Saturday and Monday as it now stands.Stay tuned for more info as I hope to see you there for one of our shows if you are in Dallas. I will do meet/greets/photo ops and Q&A's on what will be three, fun shows.

WWE Champion Seth Rollins needs a no questions asked win Sunday vs. Kane although I would definitely have Rollins cheat in some way to win or to facilitate the win.

Seems to me if WWE is hell bent on getting the women's division established and more meaningful than in the immediate past then Charlotte should prevail Sunday and then embark on a program that ends at Wrestlemania versus Sasha Banks. Just my two cents.

All of our podcast guests almost through of the year are listed on the homepage of this site. Check out who we have upcoming.

Been asked to comment on Jesse Ventura's recent statements on "Busted Open Radio about working with me. I dropped the ball on that matter and I'm man enough to admit it. I was jealous and frustrated over what Jesse was earning for a few hours of work a week while I was hitting it hard multiple days a week and earning less than half of what he was earning. Just reading that sentence back is embarrassing as I was unnecessarily pissed at the wrong guy. Jesse and I did not have the chemistry that he had with Vince McMahon or Gorilla Monsoon and I did not have the mojo with the Governor that I had with the King, Paul Heyman, Bob Caudle, Jim Cornette and others. I wish we had done better for the fans sake but the failure to do so is on me. I was burning out and the stress and pressure of WCW politics was getting the better of me I'm sad to admit. As a result of that scenario, I soiled the sheets. Life Lesson learned.

I should book Jesse to come on my podcast to discuss the error of my ways. Perhaps we can do that in 2016.
