Old-school wrestling returns to body-slam Tulsa this Saturday night
Posted: Sep 11th 2015 By: Louis Fowler
Once upon a time, wrestling was the true sport of the people. The unwashed masses would gather in arenas to see these sweaty showmen pummel each other in the ring, crafting legends and heroes along the way. But, as with most American art-forms, it became commercialized and sensationalized, thanks to corporate outlets like the WWE and WCW.
Still, there are those classical promoters out there who are hearing the voices of fans who want the sport to return its former glory day when names like Mid-South would tour middle America with their rollicking shows, when the family would pile in the station wagon and watch a couple of local heroes go the distance in their own hometown.
One company determined to return wrestling to its roots is DoIt2It Promotions, headed by former Mid-South legend Steve Cox, along with partner Gregg Swabb. Their goal is to give the fans a ?throwback feel? to pro-wrestling and the live-event experience of pro-wrestling that has become hard to find, using their decades of experience and reputation to bring some of the biggest wrestling stars of all-time such as the Steiner Brothers, Rick and Scott, Big Van Vader and Rikishi, as well as several Lucha Libre stars and up-and-coming talent, back to the people.
?The vision is to provide a rough and tumble wrestling experience for the family that used to be an entertainment staple in Oklahoma,? said Brandon Finch, wrestling journalist and current DoIt2It consultant. ?A live event in wrestling, to me, has the energy of a rock concert with your favorite artist, with the people united to boo or cheer the wrestlers in the ring. TV tapings for WWE RAW and Smackdown have caused a disconnect between the fans and the wrestlers because of the size of the buildings they are housed in. Here, you?ll be able to feel the vibrations of the body-slams on the mat and the sound of chops to the flesh. Wrestling live is a different experience than just watching it on TV. The crowds are louder and the excitement is palpable.?
Fans can experience this return to old-school form Saturday, September 12th at the Tulsa Expo Square Pavilion, with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. General admission adult tickets are $18, children 15 and under are $10 and there are still V.I.P. and meet-and-greet passes are available too.
The match card is absolutely loaded with events, including a Lucha Tag Team Match, an Inter-Continental Championship Match and, for the Main Event, legends the Steiner Brothers vs. Big Vader and Andrew ?The Re-Enforcer? Andrews. It?s a return to old-school wrestling that?s about the same price as taking the family out to the first-run movies.
?With this promotion, we are looking at a throwback style of pro-wrestling with a twist,? Finch said. ?You have the veterans that can still go the distance and then there?s the hungry up-and-coming talent.
The vision is to establish a promotion that can establish itself as a legitimate entertainment brand in Oklahoma. They are here to give the fans something unique and something they can call theirs. Everyone is there to put on the best damn show for your dollar. Come out and support Oklahoma pro-wrestling!?
