Hall of Fame pro wrestling announcer Jim Ross to share stories, answer questions at Rams Head Live
Posted: May 17th 2015 By: Ron Snyder
Jim Ross knows Baltimore is a town that understands and appreciates pro wrestling.
The hall of fame pro wrestling announcer has called some of the biggest matches in sports entertainment history, including many in Baltimore.
Ross said he is excited to share some of his stories and interact with many of his fans Saturday night as part of his one-man show, Ringside: An Evening with Jim Ross, set for 8 p.m. at Rams Head Live in Baltimore.
Ross, who has spent more than 40 years in the business, including 20 with WWE, said his new endeavor allows him to interact with fans in an intimate way he never could all those years of being on the mike at all those episodes of Raw or Wrestlemania main events featuring such greats as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and Triple-H.
While Ross left the WWE in 2013, he continues to stay extremely busy. This includes his shows, working on his biography and informing fans through his blog and his weekly podcasts, many of which are downloaded 1 million times a week.
"I've tried to help build a brand through all of these platforms," Ross said. "I believe I still have a lot to offer the business and the fans seem to enjoy what I have to say and the guests I'm able to bring one. We have an unfiltered platform and many guests, such as Shawn Michaels and Jim Cornette, have no problem coming on and sharing their opinions without mincing words. Some really shoot from the hip."
Ross stressed that each of his shows are unique and based on the crowd on any given night. He stressed that no question is off limits, as long as the conversation remains tasteful.
"I try to make every show unique," Ross said. "I change each one up and really let the fans dictate the direction we take it so that people won't come to the different shows and hear the same material. I love the interaction. I want everyone who comes to feel a part of the show."
Here is a sample of some of the questions he may address
Which wrestler most deserves to be in the WWE Hall of Fame and has not yet been enshrined?
Do you have a favorite match that you have called?
Who is the most underrated wrestler you have seen?
What was it like being on the air the night Owen Hart died in a tragic accident in 1999?
Any favorite Baltimore memories?
What advice would you give to someone trying to enter the business?
Ross may also share memories of his time as the head of talent relations for the WWE. While most know of his broadcast skills, Ross is also responsible for signing some of the biggest stars in history, including Austin, The Rock, John Cena, Mick Foley, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar.
"I'm happy to know I've given so many wrestlers an opportunity," Ross said. "Just like a general manager in the NFL, we gave them a jersey. It was up to them to make it on the field. Those who succeeded the most not only had the 'it' factor, but had that desire to want to main event at Wrestlemania.
"The best wrestlers were the ones that were able to develop and let their characters become an extension of themselves. There's not enough of that being allowed to happen in today's business."
