JR's Blog: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, RINGSIDE/BALTIMORE TKT NEWS, JOE VS TAZ ROSS REPORT PODCAST BATTLE, GLOBAL FORCE WRESTLING, AMBROSE/CINCY RAW, WWESHOP.COM
Posted: May 11th 2015 By: Jim Ross
Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's who visit our site and to those who of you who are fortunate enough to still have their Mom's in their lives, please honor them and let them know how special that they are. Mom's are irreplaceable and a Mother's love is unconditional and, take it from me, when they are gone that void is never filled but, thankfully, we have great memories that we can embrace for the rest of our days.
Melancholy day in our household as both my wife Jan and I have lost our Mom's including Jan's Mom from cancer a year or so ago. She was a Pittsburgher through and through with the toughness and integrity that many of us can only dream. My Mom died in December of 1998 while we were in London getting ready to broadcast the UK only PPV, Capitol Carnage. Th McMahon Family was wonderful to us during those trying hours when I lost my Mom and then suffered my second Bells palsy attack while on the air broadcasting the PPV. I was given the option of opting out of the show and going home but I knew that my biggest fan, my Mother, Elizabeth Ann Sheffield Ross, would have wanted me to remain on my 'post' and do my job which is what I did. As mentioned in the opening, I still have so many great memories of my Mom and it was her that instilled in me that there was nothing that her only child could not accomplish if I put forth the the effort with all the passion and preparation that I could humanly muster. That spirit that was willed to me by my feisty, 5'0"-100 pound spitfire of a Mom and has served me well.
Thanks Mom....I miss you daily and I know that you are resting in peace making things interesting in Heaven. And to the late, Lois Grillette, thank you for being a wonderful mother in law and for, most importantly, giving birth to your daughter, my wife, who I love more each passing day.
This Saturday is our first ever RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross Show in Baltimore and it will be @RamsHeadLive with the VIP meet and greet/photo op's starting at 6, the doors for every one else opening at 7 an our show kicking off at 8 pm. We sold out the VIP tickets last week but the folks at Rams Head Live put a handful more VIP tickets on sale and they are available now, in limited quantity, at ramsheadlive.com where you can also get general admission tickets for only $22.50. General Admission Tickets will also be available at the venue the day of our show for $25. Plenty of general admission tickets remain.
I can't thank my friends @MCWWrestling for all their amazing contributions in helping us promote the event. Danny McDevitt and his crew are friends and they operate an amazingly well organized and entertainingly exciting indie wrestling promotion, Maryland Championship Wrestling. Dan's crew will have JR's products available for those attending our Baltimore show this Saturday that you can pick up and take home with no shipping costs involved.
Our Ross Report with the captivatingly intelligent and entertaining @SamoaJoe is doing great numbers on our podcast this week at iTunes, podcastone.com and here on the homepage of our site. Download it for FREE at iTunes and you will never miss a show and you will be helping us with our numbers and building our audience.
This Tuesday night at 9 pm ET my guest will be my former broadcast partner and fellow podcaster Taz and we have a very entertaining show loaded with laughs and info for you. A new Ross Report drops every Tuesday evening at 9 ET and this one will be special as it's two, old friends getting together to catch up on things.
Lots of talk regarding Global Force Wrestling this past week as they announced their plans to do multiple, TV tapings in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for future airing on a network TBD. I had a wonderful experience working with Jeff and Karen Jarrett, Kevin Sullivan and the entire crew on the Wrestle Kingdom 9 PPV back in January in Tokyo and would enjoy working with them again if we can work out all the details. I have so many existing projects already scheduled plus some new options being discussed so I don't know if there are enough days on the calendar to be able to work along side Chael Sonnen of which I know we would both enjoy. Chael and I had immediate chemistry when we broadcast the Battle Ground PPV last fall which is extremely hard to develop and replicate that quickly.
Just to clear up something that I read on the Internet, I never said at any time that I would never work for WWE again but that it was highly unlikely that I would ever broadcast for them, certainly on a regular basis, in the future. I close no doors on any opportunity that I feel that I'd enjoy and that helps support my family and contributing to a company who I was with for 21, challenging albeit rewarding years isn't off the table. What some fail to realize is that I am of the mind set that I can contribute to WWE or any wrestling company, combat sport entity, etc in more ways than just behind a mic.
Mark Madden will join me Tuesday May 19 to discuss WWE Payback PPV from Baltimore. @MarkMaddenX is a Pittsburgh radio icon and former WCW broadcaster who has strong opinions and has a great mind hence his 'Super Genius' moniker. Payback certainly needs a spark as it's not the benefactor of the ideal amount of momentum one would think WWE would prefer. Nonetheless, first time subscribers can enjoy it and all that @WWENetwork has to offer FREE which is a helluva deal.
With all that said, Monday Night RAW needs to be hotter than donut grease Monday night from Cincinnati when one would assume that Dean Ambrose, who hails from there, will be positively featured. Ambrose has been somewhat off the primary radar in WWE but he is the type of talent that can be easily heated back up with the proper focus. I'd also like to see Roman Reigns take on more of a villainous or edgy persona as that will eventually lead him to 'leading man' status more efficiently.
Check out my written feature on @Billy aka Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkin fame who's the new, Senior Producer of Talent Development and Creative for TNA Wrestling a FoxSports.com.
Getting lots of questions regarding the next WWE Hall of Fame class that will be inducted in 2016 in Dallas. I have NO idea who's being considered but my first pass at a short list would likely include the Undertaker and/or Sting, The Freebirds, Stan Hansen, Jackie Moore, and no more than one posthumous inductee of which many are deserving.
Happy Birthday to my dear friend William Regal aka Darren Mathews. Darren is an amazing success story after nearly self destructing back in the day. Nonetheless, through his efforts and the efforts of others, he has become a better man, a healthy man and is an amazing asset to WWE especially to the developmental program plus he has a fantastic eye for talent. I am proud to call my friend. He's @RealKingRegal on Twitter. A true mate.
