Sting's Last Match Should Not Be Against Triple H

Sting's Last Match Should Not Be Against Triple H

Posted: Mar 7th 2015 By: Tom Clark - BleacherReport.com

Sting and Triple H are two legends on a collision course for WrestleMania 31 on March 29. The match that so many fans believed would never happen is happening, and though it's not Undertaker standing across the ring from Sting, many feel this is The Icon's last hurrah.

But this is not how Sting should end his career.

Undertaker has been the ideal opponent for Sting almost from day one. That was the dream match to end all dream matches, the one that so many fans wanted to see take place in Vince McMahon's ring.

So when Sting finally did sign with WWE, it seemed only a matter of time until that bout would begin to take shape.

But it never happened.

Perhaps the timing was off for both guys to lace up the boots. Neither man is in his prime anymore and that surely had a lot to do with the decision to not book them at WrestleMania this year.

Combine that with the fact that the crowd would be split with no clear indication of who should win, and suddenly the dream match could be considered a nightmare.

So it's not happening?at least not right now. Instead, we have the consolation prize of Triple H. And the truth is it's a pretty good choice.

Hunter may have his critics, but the fact is he will give Sting a great match at WrestleMania. He knows how to do business and certainly takes this very seriously. It's the first time that Sting will ever be in a WWE match, and that makes it an epic night indeed.

If anyone in the WWE locker room can understand the gravity of a night like that and deliver on his end to make it special, it's definitely The Game.

Honestly, it's a match that makes sense on many levels. This is being booked as WWE versus WCW, a match that would have been the game-changer back during the Monday Night Wars. Sting would have completely turned the tide had he jumped ship and went to the competition back then, so in that way, this is somewhat of a "what if" scenario.

Of course, we can't forget about The Authority.

Sting has been pretty fond of humiliating it at every turn, and that could come back to haunt him on March 29. Triple H will surely be looking for revenge because of that, but there is always the possibility that if he loses, his corporate group could fall apart.

There are many reasons to like this bout, and WWE will make it work. It may even steal the show.

But it's not enough for Sting to retire after this match. While it does sound like a good opportunity for him to walk away, it's just not the right time. The fact is he just got here, and for any fan who has wanted to see him perform in WWE, it just cannot end that fast.

There must be more to it than that, right?

Should one of the biggest icons in the industry work just one match in WWE after having spent his entire career working everywhere else? Is this just a one-and-done situation?

Or could it be more? Will there be life after working with Triple H?

The Undertaker match is always on the table, and despite any issues that may exist with it, it'd be a definite slam dunk in terms of buyrates. Fans would love to see that one go down, regardless of event it would be featured in.

For that matter, why not book Sting against other top names in the company? What about John Cena or perhaps Randy Orton? Splitting the crowd is always a possibility in these two matches as well, but could WWE resist booking them if the conditions were right?

But maybe legend versus legend is not in the cards for Sting if he chooses to wrestle after facing Triple H. Maybe a rising star would benefit more from working Sting. Why not Seth Rollins?

Rollins versus Sting would hold much of the same intrigue and storyline points that Sting versus Hunter has. The Authority would be the common denominator, only this time out it would be less about revenge and more about Rollins proving he is the future of the company.

It's a mirror image of Sting's career in the beginning, especially considering that the legendary Ric Flair put him on the map.

Flair was the established star but saw the potential that Sting had and chose to help him mature into the star he became.

Imagine if Sting did the same for Rollins now.

Triple H is a good matchup for Sting. It will work, it will sell and fans are undoubtedly very anxious to see it happen. But Sting looks to be in great shape, and provided that match goes well, he should consider sticking around for a bit longer.

He loves the business and has always had respect for WWE, so maybe he should stay and see what he could do in that company.

Seeing Sting work for the first time in a WWE ring at WrestleMania is a dream come true, but it's only a taste. Fans deserve much more than that. Hopefully, Sting will agree.
