Sting's Confrontation with Triple H Will Be the Highlight of Fast Lane

Sting is expected to appear at WWE's Fast Lane event on Sunday, February 22. The legendary star will be on hand to confront Triple H in a moment that will surely be one of the most memorable in recent WWE history.

And considering the events of The Royal Rumble, fan expectation could very well be somewhat low for Fast Lane. Couple that with the fact that The Icon will be face-to-face with The Game, and there is no doubt this confrontation will surely be the highlight of the night.

Since he stepped into a WWE ring, Sting has been portrayed as a vigilante.

Working behind the scenes and outside the reach of The Authority, Sting has been practically untouchable. He has lived in the shadows, watching and waiting for the right moments to make his presence known.

And though he has only shown his face twice on WWE programming, each moment was epic in nature.

The first time came at Survivor Series, or course, when Sting gave the assist to John Cena's team, allowing Dolph Ziggler to get the win. The Icon made physical contact with Triple H when he took him out with The Scorpion Death Drop and left Hunter lying flat on his back.

Sting's interference brought about the temporary end of The Authority, giving the WWE Universe a reprieve from Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

The next time fans saw Sting on was on the January 19 edition of Raw in which he once again gave Cena a helping hand by providing a distraction during his match. As The Authority focused its attention on Sting, Cena was able to get the pin and win back the jobs of Ryback, Ziggler and Erick Rowan.

In both instances, Sting stepped up and made a huge impact when no one else could. The Authority ran rampant over every protagonist that stood in its way, and despite how hard he fought, no WWE Superstar could bring them down.

But Sting stopped The Authority in its tracks twice.

That was enough for Triple H to demand that The Icon step up to the plate at Fast Lane. This time, Sting will not be interfering to help Cena. A major win will not hang in the balance, and WWE's future will perhaps not be at stake this time as it has been in the past.

This time, it's only Sting and Hunter in the ring. But the rest of The Authority will not be far behind.

From a storyline perspective, it's impossible to imagine that Triple H's associates will not make their presence known at Fast Lane. Hunter is the most powerful figure on WWE programming and arguably the top heel, which means that he will surely stop at nothing to ensure Sting is put in his place.

And the only way to do that is take him down.

All of this will undoubtedly make for a very interesting and exciting segment at Fast Lane. But thanks to The Royal Rumble's potential fallout, Sting's facing Triple H suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.

The truth is that many fans feel the Rumble was less than successful. Daniel Bryan's early elimination from the main event and Roman Reigns' eventual win both caused uproar among the WWE faithful. Any hopes that fans had that the Rumble would deliver were dashed thanks to those two key moments.

Even the stellar WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Cena, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins has not been enough to quell the hate levied by fans. Basically, the Rumble will be remembered for the negative aspects instead of the positive ones.

In result, many feel there is little reason to anticipate Fast Lane.

Even if Bryan is given a great spot, it would do nothing to correct what fans feel was the error of refusing him him a Rumble win. And critics of Reigns have no desire to see him look strong once again on the pay-per-view stage. Add to that the fact that as of now there is no indication that Lesnar will be booked, and the possible success of Fast Lane is truly up in the air.

It may be too early to make a determination on Fast Lane's outcome, but some are likely so disappointed that only something truly historic will rectify the situation.

That historic moment will surely be the confrontation between Sting and Triple H. Though they have been in the same ring once already, the fact is that this time will be different. This time the battle lines have been drawn, and each man knows where he stands.

Hunter is out for himself and The Authority, while Sting is out for vengeance. Sting is the vigilante who strikes when he's needed and is not concerned for his own ego. Squaring off against The Game in a test of wills is the perfect scenario, one that will likely steal the show at Fast Lane.

Even if The Royal Rumble had been a critical hit with fans, the truth is that this confrontation would still be highly anticipated. It's the meeting of two companies, of two legends, in the same ring at the same time. This is WWE versus WCW, the past clashing with the present, a contest that could have serious ramifications for the immediate future.

It could lead to Sting's facing Triple H at WrestleMania 31. It could even lead to the permanent dissolution of The Authority. Giving Sting the credit for that would be huge for The Icon and give him a great WWE moment that could be replayed for years to come.

Fast Lane may not have heavy expectations surrounding it thus far, but the truth is that there is hope for WWE fans. Sting's confrontation with Triple H will be huge, and if everything goes well it will be an epic moment for that company.

WWE thrives on creating highlights of this magnitude, and Sting's meeting with Triple H definitely fits the bill.
