Challengers on the Hunt For Triple Crown Champions

Challengers on the Hunt For Triple Crown Champions

Posted: Jan 23rd 2015 By: Michael Hunt

One could easily say that 2014 was the Year of the Wolves.

MSWA , WFC & MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions The K. C. Wolves dominated everywhere they went. And along the way, they held tag team titles in 4 different federations (including UWE). Because of their increased presence, getting back to all those companies can be difficult. And that has been the complaint of some of the tag team competitors in MSWA.

The Saints of Pro Wrestling have made it very clear that they do no appreciate how the Wolves seemingly get to show up whenever they want to and don't seem to have to abide by any requirements when it comes to how often they defend their titles. And perhaps they have a point. Their last title defence was at the end of December, but prior to that, their last recorded defence was in September. In the intervening time, the Wolves made no appearances together to defend their titles.

Part of that is due to the actions of Scott Sanders and Shawn Sanders themselves. In September, the title defence of the Wolves was followed by a brutal beating from the Sanders twins. This allowed the Sanders to steal the Mid-South Tag belts, which they would hold for the next few months. But while the Saints become overly confident, the Wolves were on the hunt.

November 29 saw Graham Bell return to MSWA on his own. While the Saints were in the ring, once again loudly complaining about the absence of the tag team champions, Bell appeared and confronted all of them, saying he would be perfectly willing to face any of the Saints in a 1-on-1 match. The Sanders seemed unwilling to acquiesce to this, reminding everyone that they were tag team guys, but an appearance from MSWA commissioner C. M. Burnham quickly silenced the complaints of the Saints. Burnham demanded that a 1-on-1 match occur and that the remaining Saints, including the Roc-N-Roll Cowboy, were to be banned from ringside. The Cowboy reminded Burnham that he had a valid manager's license, so he could not be ejected, and Shawn Sanders somehow managed to argue himself into being able to stay, but the rest of the Saints were ejected. Still, it was essentially 3-on-1 and the Sanders managed to switch places on quite a few occasions. During it all, Bell continued to fight and ended up winning the match with a quick roll-up.

Two months later, The Wolves made a surprise appearance during a match between Shawn Sanders and the Canadian Red Devil. Scott Sanders had come to interfere in the match, but the Wolves were out chasing the men who still had possession of their tag team titles. And to make matters more interesting, Larry Canyunga and SWCW Tag Team and Luchadore Champion Rick Russo also made their presence known, demanding a title opportunity. Once again, Commissioner Burnham had to step up and make order out of chaos. He said that he was perfectly willing to set up a match between the Wolves and Russo & Canyunga, but he needed the belts that the Saints had in their possession back since they would be on the line. The Saints seemed unwilling to let them go and when the time for the main event came around, still had not returned the titles. So Burnham came out and called the Saints out, demanding the return. The Saints refused to hand the belts over, but promised that they would stay out in the open and when the match was over, they would give the belts to whomever came out victorious. This seemed uncharacteristically nice of the Saints and that feeling proved to be true as the Saints eventually entered the match and blindsided both teams, resulting in the match being thrown out. Complete chaos followed as the locker room emptied with several participants in previous matches unable to keep their tempers in check and the ring soon became full of angry wrestlers, all of whom were battling in an unsanctioned Battle Royal-type atmosphere.

With MSWA preparing to reopen in their new venue, the Wolves will achieve a one-year title reign just a few days before that first event. But more importantly, when the return to MSWA, it certainly seems apparent that they will have several challengers pursuing them for their titles. And they still don't actually have the belts, as the Saints never relinquished they after that match (since they didn't win the match). Something certainly needs to be done to resolve this confusing tag team title picture before 2015 is too far gone as it would be a shame to see the deserving champions continue to be deprived of the recognition they have earned.
