The Rough Road Diamond Endured To Get To Be SRPW US Champion

Some people are fortunate to have opportunities dropped into their laps immediately. They win titles in their first year in professional wrestling. Some, like Justin Lee, were lucky enough to win a title in their first professional match.

Others have work their way up to that level of success. Diamond entered the ring as a competitor last year, although he had quite a bit of experience as a referee in SRPW before that. Additionally, he was trained in MMA combat styles, so he was familiar with what it took to be successful in the grappling sports.

Initially focusing on tag team competition, Diamond teamed with current SRPW Champion Psycho Sawyer and won the SRPW Tag Team Championship from The C. I. A. They held those titles for almost 6 months before being unseated by The Rising. But when it came time for their rematch, Diamond surprisingly turned on Sawyer, declaring himself a singles competitor and saying he was tired of being held down by other people who couldn't measure up to what he wanted to do. Diamond then began to focus on winning his first singles title: The SRPW United States Championship.

The fall of 2014 saw the SRPW US Title as a hotly contested championship. Matt Majestic had fought a war against MHM, Inc. to regain that title, but was defeated for it by Paul Puertorico at the first of the SRPW events held at the Tulsa State Fair. Many challengers lined up for that title including Majestic, Diamond and MSWA Oklahoma Champion Spike Lopez. Majestic and Diamond seemed to pull ahead of the pack in that situation and faced each other in a #1 contender's match on October 25th. Majestic won that match and looked forward to his rematch against Puertorico for the title.

But two weeks later, Diamond demanded another chance to prove himself and SRPW Commissioner Bobby Burns agreed. So the #1 contenders spot was up for grabs again between the two. Diamond knew he probably would not be able to convince Burns to grant him another opportunity if he blew this one, so he came in prepared. Both men had a good strong match against each other, but when Majestic looked to polish things off with a big boot in the corner, Diamond ducked out of the way and schoolboyed Majestic, grabbing a handful of tights to ensure that he won the match and the #1 contendership.

Diamond now looked to face Puertorico for the US Title on November 22nd, but then, an unexpected bump in the road occurred. Puertorico was diagnosed with a heart ailment and his doctor temporarily declared him unfit to wrestle until more tests could be done. Not being sure how long that would take, Puertorico had no choice but to be stripped of the title. But rather than just hand it to the #1 contender and make Diamond the champion, Bobby Burns decided to make one more match between Diamond and Majestic. This time, it would be for the championship, rather than just for a contendership. But one again, Diamond pulled an ace from his sleeve as he unveiled his new management, Jameson Thadeous Doggins III. That revelation came towards the end of the match when JTDIII came out and distracted Majestic just when it appeared he was going to win after hitting Booty Time on Diamond. With Diamond having time to recover, after JTDIII dropped off the apron, Majestic turned around and Diamond connected with a DDT for the win, securing his first singles title.

Diamond than joined Riker and Aaron Anders in JTDIII's new faction, the 3rd Dimension of Wrestling. Most recently, Diamond was successful with a victory over Crossfire Morrison and certainly displayed a viciousness uncharacteristic of his time as tag team champion. That vicious side may bring him success in his title defences, but it seems unlikely to make him new fans at the SRPW shows. But that doesn't seem to be his interest anymore. Instead, Diamond now desires to show that he endured all the pressure to become the greatest SRPW US Champion ever.
