Bartlesville Bulldog Tears Into All Challengers for Oklahoma TItle

The argument can be made that he is the most dominant champion MSWA has had in recent times. Some might also say that he is the People's Champion. For 3 months, he has consistently been at the MSWA events, meeting challenger after challenger. And it doesn't seem like anyone has what it takes to put Spike Lopez down.

Lopez, together with his ever-present valet, Misty Lynn, have been taken into the hearts of the MSWA crowd and together they have brought the Oklahoma Title to new heights of importance as a championship in the company. While Rick Russo was MSWA Mid-South Champion, his appearances and title defences were sporadic and MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions the K. C. Wolves have been in such high demand that it is sometimes difficult for them to come by and defend their tiltes as well. But since the beginnging of September, Spike has not missed a single card. He is always present and always prepared for whover is put against him,.

Beginning in October, Spike started to amass an undefeated streak as Oklahoma Champion. It began with Tyson Jaymes on October 5th. Tyson had demanded a title opportunity and MSWA Commissioner C. M. Burnham was more than happy to oblige, but insisted on putting a special referee in place. That referee turned out to be Burnham himself, which did not sit well with Jaymes, the Roc-N-Rolll Cowboy or much of the rest of the Saints of Pro Wrestling. Burnham's participation proved to be slightly controversial as he and Jaymes got into a shoving match which allowed Spike to schoolboy Jaymes. Burnham executed what appeared to be a fast count and immediately Roc-N-Roll Cowboy protested the decision. But upon reviewing footage from a ringside camera, MSWA owner Bad Boy declared that Burnham had done nothing wrong and the title remained with Spike.

Two weeks later, Spike faced the challenge of rookie sensation Nathan Estrada. The two of them were familiar with each other from encounters in ComPro, but Estrada certainly brought all his experience. It was a valiant effort, but still was not enough to unseat Spike as champion.

Perhaps the biggest challenge to Spike's title came from another MSWA roster member who put together a string of impressive wins himself. Dalton Bragg had been undefeated since entering MSWA and had come out to apparently endorse Vinnie Pacheco, who had suffered an injury. But Bragg them attacked Pacheco unexpectedly and was not deterred until Spike made the save. This brought a face-to-face challenge between those two and Bragg issued the challenge, saying he deserved the title since he was undefeated, but had never received an opportunity. Commissioner C. M. Burnham again came out and decided that if Spike was going to put his title on the line, Bragg needed to put something up as well. So he made an impromptu Career-vs-Career match for the Oklahoma title. Both men now had everything to lose, which caused them to turn up their intensity more than usual. But in the end, it was Spike hitting the Jackhammer and putting away the "Arrogant Atheist", forcing him to leave MSWA.

That victory didn't lead to easier challenges as Spike faced Larry Canyunga on November 29th. The "International Love Machine" had just retuned from a tour of Mexico and the Lucha style was not one that Spike was accustomed to. But as usual, knowing the expectations of being MSWA Oklahoma Champion, Spike came in with a plan and upended the veteran competitor, putting another challenger to the back of the line.

Most recently, a surprise return declared his intention to vie for the Oklahoma title. Michael Kensington McIntyre III, esq. had not been seen in MSWA for several months, but interrupted commissioner Burnham halfway through the December 14th event. MKM said he had been spending time away, but had returned to claim what he felt should be his: the Oklahoma title. In typical elitist fashion, McIntyre demanded that he be given a title opportunity that night, but Burnham had other thoughts in mind. Since McIntyre had not been there for several months, as far as Burnham was concerned he did not deserve the title opportunity. However, since it was the Christmas season, Burnham was in the giving mood and felt perfectly fine with giving McIntyre the opportunity to EARN a title opportunity. So in the main event that night, McIntyre would face Spike, but it would be non-title. If McIntyre won, he would receive a title shot at a future event. McIntyre was not pleased, but accepted the challenge. Spike was up to the challenge as well and came prepared to compete as if the title was on the line. As with all of Spike's recent matches, the intensity was high. Spike's winning streak continued after a tough match, but once again the Jackhammer allowed Spike to prevail over his 5th straight opponent.

Spike's success is not just isolated to MSWA. He recently entered IZW and his status as Oklahoma Champion allowed him an immediate opportunity at IZW Champion Johnny Z. These two knew each other well from their earlier tenure in MSWA and with the challenge of Jermaine Johnson and Double D still in front of him, Z felt it not worth the risk to face Spike 1-on-1, instead having Impact, Inc's facilitator, Damon Windsor, do all the dirty work and allowing Z to pick up a quick win. Spike returned that favour a couple of weeks later when Kevin Morgan did for Spike, what Windsor did for Morgan and Spike gained a victory over Windsor as a result.

Spike also made a strong challenge for the ComPro Showtime title against Patient Zero, but with Misty Lynn associated with Zero, Spike was unable to concentrate fully and ended up being defeated. Spike also seems to have formed an alliance with Ray Martinez in SRPW, which has led to some success for him there and a good showing in the recent Lockdown Match held there. Rumour also has it that, after their recent stellar showing in November, Kid Krazy and Spike Lopez have not seen the last of each other there and will continue the rivalry they began a month ago.

Oddly the last person to gain a victory over Spike has not been seen in an Oklahoma wrestling ring since then. Kenny K pinned Spike in a non-title match back in September, which seemingly puts him in line for a title match, but K hasn't been seen since that victory and if he returns now, it seems likely that commissioner Burnham would make him earn the title shot again, much like McIntyre had to do.

None of that seems to matter to Spike though. He is proud of his achievements and looks forward to continuing his dominant performances as Oklahoma Champion. Given how easily he is tearing through the competition, there doesn't seem to be anyone on the MSWA roster who looks likely to take that title away from him anytime soon.
