WWE news: Jim Ross returning to pro wrestling as announcer

Posted: Nov 12th 2014 By: www.examiner.com

For the last few months, fans on Twitter and his own blog have been asking WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross if he had plans to return to announcing when Jeff Jarrett kicked off his Global Force Wrestling promotion. Ross said that people should never say never, but he has moved on from wrestling at this time. When it was announced that Global Force Wrestling was working on a pay-per-view with New Japan Pro Wrestling, fans asked if this was something he would be interested in, but Ross said it would take a lot to convince him to consider that.

It sounds like Jeff Jarrett came to Jim Ross with a lot then, because Jarrett announced on Tuesday that Ross will be the announcer for the New Japan Pro Wrestling pay-per-view broadcast promoted by Global Force Wrestling. This will be the first PPV that Jim Ross has worked since he left the WWE last year. The event will take place from the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

Jeff Jarrett has said from the beginning that Global Force Wrestling will be more than just another American wrestling promotion and said this will be something completely different. He has set out and, before even getting his own television deal and signing talent, he has worked out agreements with wrestling promotions from around the world to work with them. New Japan is the first international co-promoted event that will take place under the GFW banner.

Jim Ross has done a lot since leaving the WWE. He has started his own weekly column for Fox Sports, started out on a one-man stage performance show, and continued his successful BBQ business. Ross also teamed with Chael Sonnen to announce an MMA show last month. Now, his WWE fans can see him again when he becomes the American voice of New Japan Pro Wrestling?s ?Wrestle Kingdom 9? pay-per-view.

?Wrestle Kingdom 9? will air live at 2 a.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. It will re-air at 7 p.m. ET and will be carried by DirecTV, Dish, AT&T UVerse, Comcast, Verizon Fios, and cable systems throughout the U.S. The main event will see an IWGP title match between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada. The Bullet Club, which consists of American stars like Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows will also appear on the card.
