Report: WWE Considering Ric Flair for a Regular On-Screen Role
Posted: May 7th 2014 By: Sharon Glencross - BleacherReport.com
ould Ric Flair become a regular character on Raw and SmackDown again in the near future?
It could very well be on the verge of happening.
Dave Meltzer notes in this week?s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required) that there are currently discussions going on in WWE about bringing Flair back to television permanently after his segment on last Monday?s Raw delivered strong viewing figures:
"There is at least some talk of giving Ric Flair a regular role on television after his quarter hour once again popped the biggest rating on the show last week, on a show that drew a big number during a week nobody was expecting a big number."
Having Flair on television has its obvious advantages.
Aside from the fact that he delivers decent numbers, ?The Nature Boy? also has the nearly unrivaled ability to turn anything he?s involved with entertaining and must-see, regardless of how shoddy the angle or storyline is on paper.
His passion and enthusiasm for the business illuminates everything he does, and it helps the product massively.
There?s also a ton of potential in his possibly rejoining Evolution?something the recently reunited heel group probably needs right now. Or maybe he could stay babyface and feud with The Authority. There are a few possibilities for him, assuming WWE decides to feature him.
Of course, some will question whether putting Flair in a high-profile spot is genuinely worth the risk. Flair?whose personal and legal problems over the past few years have been well documented?probably isn?t the ideal employee for a strict, image-obsessed corporation like WWE, to put it mildly.
Just look at his antics at the WWE 2K14 press conference last August, which Flair openly admitted got him a ton of heat from management, per Dave Scherer of PWInsider.com.
Flair has seemingly been on his best behavior since then, but is it enough to placate Vince McMahon and convince him to give the legend another shot?
