Bromance Not So Bad In Bartlesville Brawl
Posted: Apr 11th 2014 By: Michael Hunt
Wrestling is a brotherhood. And as such, sibling rivalry is almost inevitable, especially amongst tag teams. Wrestling fans long loved to ponder who would win: Ricky Morton or Robert Gibson? Hawk or Animal? Bully Ray or Devon? Scott or Rick Steiner?
Since forming the Legion of Bromance in 2010, Justin Lee and Max McGuirk captured tag team titles in many different federations around Northeastern Oklahoma. And both are accomplished singles wrestlers as well. So the question once again raised its head: Who is better?
It appeared that question would be answered on March 28 as the first Bartlesville Brawl would be headlined by these two athletes. Both are also teachers for the Bartlesville school system and the event was designed to raise funds for the school. So with many of their students in the crowd, Lee and McGuirk planned to put on a show no one would forget. And they achieved that, though not in the way they expected.
Lee and McGuirk came to the ring for a pre-match interview with ring announcer C. M. Burnham and both exhibited confidence in the match. But the mood changed drastically when UWE Champion Jon Cross came to the ring uninvited. Cross, after berating the crowd and the ring announcer, declared that it was a travesty for him not to be in the main event and announced that he was willing to take on both men in a Triple Threat Match. Before an answer could be given, Russ Rogers made his way down and declared himself the biggest star in the 6 state area. Therefore he should be in the main event as well. The four men paired off and tempers bean to fly, so before long, things bean to break down and the fists bean to fly. Executive Director Mike Iles came down to restore order and declared that the one-on-one match would have to be set aside because we would now see Jon Cross and Russ Rogers vs. the reformed Legion of Bromance in the main event!
It was over 15 minutes of top action, but it looked like it would be over early as the LoB dominated early with quick tags and great double team moves. Cross and Rogers were finally able to isolate Lee in their corner for about 4 minutes, using distraction and chicanery. At one point, Lee appeared to be on the verge of making the tag, but Rogers yanked McGuirk down off the apron. Lee absorbed more punishment, but was finally able to shrug it off and hit a superkick before making the tag to Max. The match broke down with all four men in the ring at the same time, but Justin connected on Rogers with a moonsault and both men rolled out of the ring. This left McGuirk to slam Cross in the middle of the ring and connect with a 450 splash for the win.
It was a tremendous accomplishment for the Legion of Bromance, but still the question remains: who is better? Perhaps that question will be answered next year at the second Bartlesville Brawl.
