The Scoop

NEWS
WWE has revealed a sneak peek at the 2014 Hall of Fame rings. It?s worth noting that the inside of Scott Hall?s ring is engraved with his real name, not the Razor Ramon name. All Hall of Famers have their names engraved on the inside except for The Ultimate Warrior. His ring is engraved with his mask symbol, the Ultimate Warrior name and his trademark phrase, ?Always Believe.? You can see the ring by clicking here.
During The Ultimate Warrior's Hall of Fame speech, Mick Foley posted on Twitter ?Personally, I think my #WWEHOF speech last year may have been better than this one.? Foley then received complaints from Warrior fans. Foley then posted ?Lighten up #LittleWariors ? I expressed a polite personal opinion in a non-definitive way.?
The Ultimate Warrior was recently on a 2 hour podcast where he talked about his career and issues with Vince McMahon. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here.
Hulk Hogan also posted on Twitter during Warrior's speech ?Warrior was awesome at the HOF brother. HH? and "We have all changed and learned,Warrior is a good man and I hope some day I can share my new energy with him! Only love. HH?.
Stephanie McMahon posted a picture on Twitter of her father and The Ultimate Warrior embracing. To view the picture, click here.
On Saturday, WWE presented a three and a half hour Hall of Fame ceremony thanks in part to overruns by both Amy ?Lita? Dumas and a weird induction speech by Mr. T. The night started with Lita being inducted by Trish Stratus. Lita, sporting a rare dress, took her time with the speech and went pretty long with WWE eventually cutting her off. She remained on stage for a bit then got the hint to exit stage left. Diamond Dallas Page then inducted an emotional Jake ?The Snake? Roberts who talked about almost dying, the help he received from DDP, the fans chipping in for his surgeries, and love for his family. The weirdest HOF induction speech then came from the one and only Mr T. Mean Gene Okerlund and T?s son T Junior inducted the A-Team star who came out to his old show?s theme song. Mr. T went longer than anyone quoting the Bible, thanking God, and dedicated the whole speech to his mother, repeatedly saying how much he loved his mom. The fans started the ?What?? chant and then a ?this is awesome,? sarcastically of course as it was quite a train wreck. As Mr. T kept going, Kane?s music hit, and he came out, shook T?s hand, and basically told him to get off the stage, an order which Mr. T quickly obeyed. Awkward. Kane then inducted the late Paul Bearer, and gave a nice, touching speech about his ?dad? and former manager. Bearer?s two sons came out to accept the honor on their dad?s behalf in a short speech and then The Undertaker?s theme song hit. Taker, decked in full gimmick ring gear, came out with the urn and went on his knees and saluted Bearer, making this the first time that The Undertaker ever appeared at a Hall of Fame ceremony. Kevin Nash inducted Razor Ramon who gave a short speech as things were running late. Hall looked absolutely great and after he was done, Triple H, Sean Waltman, Shawn Michaels, and Nash came out to pose with the Bad Guy for a Kliq reunion that didn?t happen when HBK got inducted a few years ago. Carlos Colon was inducted by his two sons Carlito and Eddie and nephew Orlando. Carlito cracked some jokes first but then took a back seat as Los Matadores talked about Colon. Colon spoke in Spanish during his last part of the speech and again this was cut short. Lastly, Linda McMahon came out to talk about the Ultimate Warrior, revealing how he had asked to be his direct contact when he last returned in 1996 and how often he would call her to vent off, sometimes calling her mom. Warrior then came out with his two young daughters and had a 40 minute speech which didn?t have any surprises and he stuck to mostly words
easily found in the dictionary. He did take a dig at WWE lead attorney Jerry McDevitt after he said WWF instead of WWE and said he can?t believe McDevitt got his ass kicked by the World Wildlife Fund. Warrior acknowledged Cena?s work for Make-A-Wish and put him over big time, a remark that got a nice applause from the fans. He only mentioned Hulk Hogan once, saying he was 30 years old when he fought Hogan at WrestleMania VI and stayed away from any controversial topics. The show ended at 11:30pm and after Warrior left the stage lights came up and that was it. None of the newly-inducted Hall of Famers were brought out on stage again as in previous years, most likely because the show ran super late thanks to Lita and Mr. T.
During his long Hall of Fame speech, the Ultimate Warrior revealed that he had signed a new multi-year deal with the WWE to be an ambassador for the company. This will put Warrior on the WWE books for the first time since 1996 when he came back for his one last run which ended being a rather short one. Warrior thanked Triple H during his speech for making this all possible, calling him by his real name Paul and then got a check out ?from 1991? asking McMahon if it?s going to bounce! Warrior was obviously referring to the money McMahon had to pay him so Warrior would appear in the main event of SummerSlam 91 with Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter, Col. Mustafa, General Adnan after Warrior threatened not to appear if he wasn?t paid. Needless to say, when Warrior ran after Mustafa and went backstage during the end of the show, he was fired.
WWE?s website caught up with Jake Roberts and Diamond Dallas Page after Saturday's WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Jake commented on his speech, ?I wrote some stuff down, and I did not follow any of it. I?ve always done that. It came from the heart.? You can read the entire story by clicking here.
Former WCW star The Stro (formerly known as The Maestro) has published a new column at PWMania.com and mantioned Jake Roberts "Wow. Where do I begin? Longtime good friend. Former AAA (Mexico) tag team partner. Mentor. Great wrestling mind. Great booker. All around legend. Master psychologist. That?s my buddy Jake. I remember first watching him in World Class Championship Wrestling, CWF in Florida, Mid-South, and his Georgia Championship Wrestling cliche with the Road Warriors and his feud with Ronnie Garvin. One of the most popular WWE Icons of the 80s and later one of the most hated villains. His low key voice in interviews would force you to listen to every word while his eyes would look into you through the camera. I have always felt he would be one heck of an actor for films. I have wrestled with him, against him, learned from him, starved with him, traveled with him, and kept out of trouble with him lol! He has accomplished so much in the Professional Wrestling business through the years. Talking to him is like sitting at the learning tree. He has helped so many guys through the years including myself. So many more could learn from him. It is only fitting that my buddy and fellow WCW Alumni, the man who thru DDPYoga helped turn Jake?s life around, Diamond Dallas Page would induct ?The Snake? into the Hall of Fame. Inspiration. Love ya man!"
Smith Hart, brother of Bret Hart and Owen Hart, was asked on Twitter "do you share Bret's confidence that WWE will finally induct Owen into the hall of fame next year?" His answer was "I believe next year they will induct the Hart Foundation as a unit, which includes Owen" and "I also believe The Rock, Ray Stevens and Brutus Beefcake will be inducted".
They did a live legends roundtable Saturday night, talking WrestleMania history. It was for the most part what you would expect, pushing Undertaker's streak, pushing some of the most famous matches and moments with both truth and mythology mixed in. A lot of the mythology has become religion to people so nobody expects the truth out of that, but the pushing that Ric Flair's last career match was at WrestleMania is a bit much. Ric Flair, Mick Foley, and John Layfield were on the panel. Foley seemed to actually have a grasp of history which saw him double-teamed at one point for stating something obvious, that Mike Tyson was hugely influential in WrestleMania 1998.
There was an emotional moment on the Legends of Wrestling special from WWE Axxess on the WWE Network last week when Ric Flair and Michael Cole were talking about Flair?s retirement match at WrestleMania 24. Flair got emotional when talking about the match and his career ending. Cole then mentioned how Flair?s family was at ringside and they showed a clip of him talking to them at the match. Flair got more emotional when talking about how his son Reid Flair, who passed away just over a year ago, was a big Shawn Michaels fan. On a related note, Flair spoke to fans at Axxess last week from inside the NXT ring and said the greatest honor of his career is that his daughter Charlotte is carrying on his legacy in the ring.
Wrestlemania XXX broke the 33 year old record set by Junkyard Dog vs. Michael Hayes of 28,000 fans in New Orleans at the Superdome. It was, at the time, the American indoor wrestling attendance and gate record.
The Honky Tonk Man says he had to fly himself into New Orleans, LA for WrestleMania weekend. On Friday, he posted on Twitter ?WWE did the screw job. HTM bought his own first class on Southwest.. No worries.?
Former WCW valet Gorgeous George attended WrestleMania Axxess on Friday night and visited with Lanny Poffo, who was signing at the event. As you know, Poffo is the brother of the late Randy Savage, who George worked with in WCW.
There is a Brock Lesnar section up on "Fight Pass" and they've got interviews up there with The Rock, Steve Austin, and Jim Ross talking Lesnar's WWE and UFC careers.
Jim Ross hosted two sessions of his show "Ringside: An Evening with Jim Ross" last weekend at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA in front of jam packed crowds. The early session had a surprise guest in the form of Jim Cornette while the late night session had an even bigger surprise, Stone Cold Steve Austin. JR recounted stories from his childhood living on a farm before going into details about his early days of professional wrestling and then moving to his eventual departure from WCW because he was ?too southern? and then joining WWE. A Q&A then proceeded and the late night session was interrupted when the host read a question from a tweet - obviously a set up - about who?s JR?s favorite Texan apart from Dr. Death. JR said that he?d have to think about that, but not for long, and said that person is right here in New Orleans. The crowd erupted at the obvious answer and out came fellow WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin to a large ovation from the crowd. Austin then spent the rest of the show answering questions from fans with Ross.
Stephen Lyon reported about his attendance at the Jim Ross show at The House of Blues in New Orleans, LA. He said "Went to the Jim Ross show at the House of Blues, the 9:30pm version. Was told that Jim Cornette was at the 6:30pm show. I attended the Ross show back in Manchester UK last year, so the first half where he talked his career & anecdotes was similar. The second half saw him bring out Stone Cold Steve Austin. Place went nuts. Austin & Ross did the Q&A part for about 50 minutes. Some good stuff - re:Montreal both agrees Bret should have done the honours, Austin citing his own regret over the Lesnar deal in 2002. When asked about a WM32 match with Punk in Dallas, Austin gave the never say never answer, but did state it was highly unlikely. There was other notes - Ross thinks Kofi Kingston should turn heel & that his missed opportunity was vs Orton at MSG a few years back. Ross also dislikes the current announcing style in wrestling. Good show, very boisterous & merry crowd."
Dave Meltzer also attended a Jim Ross show and reported " went to JR's one-man show (well, two-man show as there was a surprise appearance by Stone Cold Steve Austin) last night at the House of Blues. It was a really fun show, and if he comes to your area you should check it out. The venue was just PACKED, like almost literally -- LITERALLY -- people hanging from the rafters, and they all appeared to be having a great time. First part was Ross telling stories and then they did a long Q&A with the fans. Austin, and this should shock nobody, is a really great public speaker, was hilarious, was having a ton of fun, and all I could think when it was over was that Ross and Austin as a duo need to be doing more shows like this, or Austin needs to be doing his own shows as well. Everyone there seemed to be having a great time and went absolutely nuts when they brought out Austin even though I don't think it was much of a secret that he was there for that show. Jim Cornette was also there for the first show as well and people said he was great too."
