Wrestling By The Numbers: Steven ?Sting? Borden

Posted: Mar 3rd 2014 By: mikeiles

TNA Wrestling has parted with legendary performer and former 5-Time TNA Champion Steven ?Sting? Borden. The 54-year-old Omaha Nebraska native had worked for the company over the past 11-years was the first ever inductee into the TNA Hall Of Fame in 2012. Borden first started working with TNA in 2003 on a limited appearance contract and then became a full-time member of the organization?s roster starting in 2005. He has been one of TNA?s top stars having competed in four Bound For Glory main events and has been involved in major feuds with the likes of Jeff Jarrett, A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley and Hulk Hogan during his run. Borden has been apart of 2-different versions of The Main Event Mafia stable and has also been praised for his work with the company?s young talents over the years.

Steven Borden is a 29-year veteran of the professional wrestling industry who first debuted back in 1985 after having been trained by Red Bastien and Rick Bassman. Borden has competed throughout his career under the names Flash and Flash Borden and gained iconic status in the industry with his work as Sting. He first made a name for himself along with fellow future superstar Jim Hellwig as a tag-team known as The Blade Runners. From 1985-1987 the duo competed in both Jerry Jarrett?s Memphis based Continental Wrestling Association and Bill Watts? Universal Wrestling Federation. Borden signed with Jim Crockett Promotions / World Championship Wrestling in 1987 and over the next 14-years went on the become the most successful performers in the history of the company. He was known as ?the face of the franchise? and competed in 5-main event matches at the company?s annual Starrcade pay-per-view event and was a former 7-Time World Champion.

When WCW was purchased by Vince McMahon in 2001, Borden decided against signing with World Wrestling Entertainment and sat out the remaining one year left on his Time Warner contract. He then joined the European based World Wrestling All-Stars in 2002 and spent a half a year with the organization becoming a former 1-Time WWA Champion before returning to the United States and joining TNA Wrestling. Over the past few year?s it has been rumored that Borden has been considering both retirement and signing with World Wrestling Entertainment. It has been reported that Borden and the WWE have been in contract negotiations but no official announcement regarding his status has been made. TNA Wrestling has confirmed he is no longer apart of their organization despite his profile still appearing on their company website.
