The Will Of The Gods

The past two years have been quite a ride for Bobby Starr.

Recognised as the Most Improved Wrestler for two years in a row in the Oklafan Year-End Awards for 2012 and 2013, Starr made inroads in IZW, MSWA & ComPro just to name a few. A feud with Steven Sterling over the ComPro Showtime title culminated in a Casket Match that was a Match of the Year nominee. His partnership with The Bronze Bull as Team Bull saw Star achieve the IZW Tag Team Titles and be voted Feud of the Year against What Wrestling Should Be. And his tenure in MSWA saw him become a 3-time MSWA Oklahoma Champion, more than any other person ever held that title.

The last few months in MSWA have been rather interesting for Star. He spent most of the year as one of the most hated stars in the federation (a status he shared in ComPro), but after winning the Oklahoma Title from current BPPW Junior eavyweight & OWA Champion The Canadian Red Devil, Starr was put into a match against Kevin Morgan, who promptly defeated Starr for the title and still reigns today. That confrontation brought sympathy to Starr from the MSWA crowd and the remainder of 2013, Starr was beloved by the crowd as he competed with Drake Gallows and Angel Camacho to earn a shot to regain that Oklahoma title. Sadly, that opportunity came on December 1st in a Triple Treat Match and Morgan was still able to walk away as Oklahoma Champion.

When Starr came to the ring at the beginning of the final wrestling event of 2013, he calmly addressed the MSWA crowd. He said that he had tried to do things for the fans, but it just hadn't worked out for him. Now, the gods were once again telling him to think about himself and ignore the fans wishes. Just as swiftly as the crowd embraced him, the crowd turned their backs on Starr. But Starr wasn't left to his own devices for long as SWCW Tag Team Champion Scott Sanders made is way to the ring. Sanders told Starr that he as tired of hearing him out here whining and crying. Instead of blaming everyone else, in Sanders' opinion, Starr needed to take responsibility for is shortcomings and make efforts to fix things. Seeing that this course of action seemed unlikely, Sanders offered to beat some sense into Starr and very quickly a match was under way between them. Starr returned to his tactics of old, shortcuts and all, and took advantage of Sanders being primarily a tag team competitor. While Sanders put up a courageous battle, eventually he was felled by a schoolboy from Starr, who put his feet on the ropes to gain extra leverage in the pin.

Wile Starr is now reviled in MSWA, he is still beloved in IZW, but his career now as a hue question mark surrounding it. After losing their bid to regain the IZW Tag Team Titles at Chaotic Christmas, The Bronze Bull decided that it was time for him to leave IZW. Last Saturday, Starr signed to face off against Convict. Starr needed all the powers of the gods to come out victorious in this battle, but it just wasn't meant to be as the battle spilled to the outside. As devastating as Convict is inside the squared circle, he is even more brutal on the outside and he capitalised on that by delivering a 15-to-20 to Starr on the concrete floor, similar to what he did to Brandon Bishop. Convict would go on to pick up the victory very easily, but the true story lay in Starr requiring assistance in leaving the ring.

At press time, the extent of Starr's injuries are unknown. As far as Starr as progressed in the sport, it is quite possible that the injury and attitude change may signal the end of is career. Or perhaps the gods will prevail in a comeback once again.
