The Ups And Downs Of The Mountain Man
Posted: Nov 8th 2013 By: CMBurnham
Recent times have proven somewhat frustrating for Terry Montana.
Last year, Montana spent quite a bit of time trying to find the correct tag team partner to take the ComPro Tag Team Titles from The Swamp Men. After initially believing Bernard Funk to fit that description (and coming up short at ComPro's 6th anniversary show), Montana and Richie Adams formed something of an Odd Couple partnership. But it was a successful partnership as they became the longest reigning tag team champions in ComPro history.
That title reign came to an end this past Friday, as Adams was forced to surrender the tag team titles due to an injury the previous month against Dutch Hagen. But Montana kept a smile on his face and persevered, knowing he had a match later against Patient Zero.
The wildchild of ComPro, accompanied by Nurse Sanity, was as unpredictable as ever, throwing a chair in the ring and causing general chaos. And the Mountain Man caused plenty of chaos as well, bringing a bag of Halloween candy and scattering it amongst the fans. Even though it was not a No DQ match, that did not stop Montana from using one of the paddles a fan had brought for the main event and breaking it over the posterior of Patient Zero. With size, power and experience on his side, it seemed that this match would tip in the favour of Montana, but it was Nurse Sanity who proved to be the key factor. As Patient Zero drew the attention of the referee, Sanity sprayed a rag with some unknown chemical and smothered Montana in a corner with it, rendering him unconscious. Zero was then easily able to pick up the victory. And Montana had to deal with having lost his title and his match before intermission.
But there was still the main event; the annual Halloween Hardcore/Fans Bring The Weapons Battle Royal. A match that was right down Montana's alley. 10 ComPro stars entered and the bodies began flying almost immediately. Montana stood proud, keeping everyone at bay and focused on the end; an end that saw Montana and another newcomer, Nick Liggett, as the final two competitors. Liggett, also unsuccessful earlier in a Body Bag Match against ComPro and OWA Champion The Canadian Red Devil, made a strong for himself, but it was not enough as Montana pinned him in the middle of the ring to win the match. Finally, the string of bad luck had seemingly been broken.
Montana hopes the good luck continues in OWA, as he and Bobby Starr (perhaps even more of an Odd Couple than he and Adams) advanced to the second round of the OWA Tag Team Title tournament and look forward to making it all the way to the championships in December.
