Tim Don't Quit

Tim Don't Quit

Posted: Sep 19th 2013 By: CMBurnham

There are many different aspects to the personality of UWE United States Champion Tim Rockwell.

Most fans of UWE are familiar with the Natural Born Villain. The man who cheats to win. The master of the cheap shot. And one of the most hated people in the company.

But for fans of WFC, they see a different side of Tim Rockwell. They see the man who will not stop fighting against childhood cancer. They see the hero taking on the villains. They see a terrific role model.

And Tim won't stop being that man.

For almost the entire existence of WFC, Tim Rockwell has been plagued by Jon Cross and Stevie Caballero. Cross has made a personal vendetta out of trying to expose Rockwell as a charlatan and a hypocrite. And Cross and Caballero believed they had a perfect plan. They came out at the beginning of the show on September 8 to demand an I Quit match. Rockwell joined them and a verbal war ensued where accusations were thrown around and deeply personal rivalries were reheated. In the course of actions, host Mike Iles proclaimed that he could not sanction an I Quit match because the previous host had signed a contract for a Ladder match between Rockwell & Cross. But if they would agree to a new contract, the match could be made. Cross and Rockwell were both happy with this and Rockwell reminded the crowd that not only were they on his side, but he was fighting for Cayden Williamson, who had just passed away 2 days before.

Even though Cayden was not there for the show to raise money for his family, Tim would not quit.

When it came time for the main event, Cross had Caballero as well as Kyle Kelly and new WFC Champion Robert Lee in his corner. Tim had the fans. And he knew he had Cayden. Unexpectedly, he also had Mike Iles, who banned everyone from Cross' entourage from ringside. Cross was irate and began blaming Iles of stacking the deck. But when that accomplished nothing, Cross switched tactics and said it would be really easy to explain everything Cross did by saying he had the Devil inside him. But in truth, Cross was empty inside and it was all his choice. None of this deterred Rockwell and the contest was on.

An I Quit match is one of the most humiliating types of matches ever devised. The match is not over until one of the contestants says they quit, out loud where everyone can hear them. Many different submission moves were tried by Cross, but Rockwell remained in the match as the fans chanted ?Tim, don't quit! Tim, don't quit!?. Cross even took referee Stevie Jay's belt and whipped Rockwell with it in front of his daughter, telling him to think of her and just give up. Tim responded that his daughter hit harder than Cross.

Because as long as there were children to fight for, Tim won't quit.

Cross became desperate. He went to the announce table and grabbed the timekeeper's bell and tried to hit Rockwell with it. Rockwell ducked and hit Cross with a Grapevine DDT. He then broke the base the bell was adhered to by hitting the bell with the hammer repeatedly against Cross' head. Then, Rockwell sensed that it could be over and locked on the Figure-4 leglock. The pain was intense and Cross desperately crawled to the ropes to force a break. But rope breaks were not required in I Quit matches and Cross began to lower himself out of the ring in an effort to escape. This gave Rockwell unexpected leverage, especially with a judicious use of the ropes to brace himself and Cross found himself hanging upside down, writhing in agony.

And finally Cross had no choice but to announce that he quit.

Months of frustration were finally relieved as Rockwell was announced as the winner. But the fight was not truly over for Rockwell. Because there were still more kids with cancer. Still more kids who need a hero.

And until he dies, Tim won't quit.
