Desperate Actions Keep The Gold In Z's Hands
Posted: May 19th 2013 By: CMBurnham
For over 6 months, the battles between Double D and MSWA Mid-South & IZW Champion Johnny Z for the MSWA title have raged on. And it seemed that D had Z's number in all their confrontations. Perhaps Z knew this going in to Mid-South Meltdown. Or perhaps he understands that it isn't important to win all the matches, just the important ones.
The past few months have seen Double D face Johnny Z in practically every type of match. Going back to February Fallout, D took on Z in a Tables match. D had Z conquered, but referee George Knight was knocked out and did not see D put Z through the table. The interference of Impact, Inc. (perfectly legal in a Tables Match) ensured Z retained the belt.
For the next three months, no confrontation between D and Z ended with Z victorious. Singles matches...8-man tag matches...none of it went in Z's favour. On April 7, D defeated Z in a one-on-one contest, allowing D to pick the stipulation in their contest at Mid-South Meltdown. And since Impact, Inc. had been so prominent in helping Z retain his MSWA Title before, D picked one simple stipulation: Impact, Inc. would be banned from ringside at their match.
The one person who appeared to be impervious to this ban was IZW & MSWA commissioner Erica. And she cockily accompanied Z to the ring, remaining at ringside to cause her standard amount of interference. But George Knight was not in the mood to tolerate this and ejected her about halfway through the match. The crowd felt sure this would be the decisive move and that D would reclaim his belt. And perhaps Z was concerned about that as well. No matter what he did, he could not keep D down. Even worse, D came perilously close to pinning Z several times. So, sensing that the end was near, Z did the only thing he could to solve the situation.
He kicked George Knight in the crotch.
It was swift, decisive and intentional. It cost Z the match. But it saved Z the title, as titles cannot change hands on a DQ. Z walked away the loser officially, but still a winner in his own mind as he retained the title that was so important to him.
D was heartbroken. While a champion in the hearts of the fans, it still is not enough. And it will not ever be enough until he can bring the MSWA Title back to the fans and begin his third reign.
