Rookie Talent Showcased At SRPW Event
Posted: Mar 22nd 2013 By: CMBurnham
SRPW prides itself on being a building ground for many of the young talents in Oklahoma and this past Friday was a showcase for many of those talents. One of them would get the opportunity of a lifetime as they would earn the chance to compete for the SRPW Title later in the card.
A Fatal 4-Way match was held to determine who the lucky competitor would be. One of the entrants was not really as inexperienced as the others. Demarco Tate made his SRPW debut and clearly had an experience advantage over the others. Tate had learned a lot from his pursuit of the SWCW All-American Title and applied much of that knowledge during the match.
The next-least experienced member was Roberto Romero. Although he is nearing the completion of his first year, Romero had been absent from the SRPW ring and only recently made his return complete with a new name. The largest of the 4, Romero focused on strength and power in the match.
The other two men were pretty much a toss-up. Both Matt Majestic and En Fuego only had a handful of matches under their belts. Something of an experience factor could be tossed in Majestic?s corner as he had competed in both SRPW & SWCW, while En Fuego was only familiar with the Sapulpa arena. En Fuego would concentrate on high-flying tactics while Majestic employed his unique approach and psychological tactics.
Size, aerial skills, mind games....what would prove to be the best tactic? Well, in this instance it proved to be mind games as Majestic took Tate down with a Sunset Flip. It was a hard-fought victory, but the crowd was certainly appreciative of his efforts and looked forward to seeing him face Ray Martinez for the SRPW Title.
Sadly, mind games were no match for experience. After capturing the SRPW Title on March 9 from Kid Krazy (due to assistance from SRPW Tag Team and SWCW Champion Jake O'Brien), Martinez was determined not to be known as a transitional champion. And despite some initial reluctance to engage in combat with Majestic, Martinez employed the experience (and the assistance of his valet Selena) to retain his championship.
It may not have been the ending Majestic wanted, but he certainly gained some experience and will be able to take that and become a more successful competitor in the near future.
