"Title Hunter" Succeeds In Capturing Two Belts In Two Feds

"Title Hunter" Succeeds In Capturing Two Belts In Two Feds

Posted: Mar 14th 2013 By: CMBurnham

On the surface, it appears that SRPW Tag Team & SWCW Champion Jake O'Brien's betrayal of the SRPW fans at the end of 2012 resulted in a rather flat reaction. That is not what anyone in the sport of professional wrestling wants. So O'Brien took steps to remedy that by alligning himself with the one man who is guaranteed to generate a reaction every time he arrives: SRPW Commissioner B-Arthur.

O'Brien recently won a Battle Royal which guaranteed him a shot at the SRPW Title, held at the time by his former Extreme Avengers partner Kid Krazy. And smelling gold, Arthur offered O'Brien a spot in the Golden Alliance immediately after that. O'Brien accepted that offer and it appeared that the Alliance was on its way to potentially holding all the belts in SRPW.

But then, Cody Burns defeated Graham Bell for the SRPW United States Title and the Alliance was left with just the SRPW Tag Team Titles, held by the K. C. Wolves. And the wheels began to spin. But who was controlling the spinning? That question came up after Bobby Burns, Sam Stackhouse & Kid Krazy, with Dexter Hardaway in their corner, defeated The Golden Alliance in a 6-Man main event on February 23. Krazy scored the pinfall by hitting an inverted slam on Bell, but O'Brien blamed C. M. Chunk, who had been at ringside for the match. It was the latest in a slew of abuse towards the rotund compatitor and it appeared that Chunk had finally had enough as he retailiated against a 2-on-1 attack from the K. C. Wolves. But then O'Brien took the microphone and said that the weak link has never been Chunk. It's been the Wolves. Just like all the other former members of the Golden Alliance, the Wolves couldn't maintain the level expected of them. O'Brien proclaimed that a triangle is strong and that was what they had. And Arthur announced that O'Brien would soon be making the most of his SRPW Title shot.

But it wasn't Krazy that was in O'Brien's target on March 9. Instead, B-Arthur came out and recapped the events of February 23, talking about family and success. He decelared that the K. C. Wolves were no longer the SRPW Tag Team Champions and reminded everyone that he had the power to make anyone champion. At that point, he brought out Chunk & O'Brien and told them that he had a big surprise for them. Chuck was elated as he was certain he was about to be handed his first wrestling title. The expression on O'Brien's face was difficult to read, but he seemed content with what was about to happen. Arthur accosted a Girl Scout Cookie representative who was selling near the ring area and took 2 boxes of cookies back to the ring, giving one to O'Brien and demolishing the other in front of Chunk. He then announced that he was declaring HIMSELF Tag Team champions, but that later that night, there would be a match pitting the Alliance against Stackhouse & Bobby Burns. Arthur was very clear that he did NOT want to lose control of what he had just given to himself.

The Alliance was able to keep the SRPW Tag Team belts in their possession after defeating Burns & Stackhouse, despite a massive discrepency in size and experience. The Alliance members put Stackhouse down with a double chokeslam while Arthur took care of Burns on the outside. Chunk then locked in the Anaconda Vice and Stackhouse passed out from the pain. Burns slid in with a chair after a brief 2-on-1 beating by the Alliance members, but it was too late as far as the belts were concerned. O'Brien had notched one claim in his belt and still had the SRPW Title shot in the wings.

As much as he is hated in SRPW, O'Brien is still loved by the fans of SWCW and finally was able to captialise on his SWCW Title shot that he earned back when Austin Tacious was still champion. O'Brien cornered Russo and defeated him for the SWCW Title, in the process ridding SWCW of Stevie Caballero, who put his career in SWCW on the line in the match as well. 2 claims of gold. But there was still more.

O'Brien hoped to handle two birds with one stone as far as the SRPW Title match went. It would allow him to try and regain that title, but more importantly it would let him get his hands on Kid Krazy. Or at least that's what seemed to be the plan. But O'Brien's interference actually cost Krazy the SRPW title on March 9 against Ray Martinez.

Lots of questions are now rotating around O'Brien. Is HE really the mastermind behind the current incarnation of the Golden Alliance? Will he challnege Martinez for the title? O'Brien & Martinez have never been friendly dating back to the days of MERC and the early days of SRPW. Which is more important to O'Brien, the belt or his issue with Kid Krazy? The answers to these questions may provide some insight into the future of this dual champion.
