WWE Worried About the Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter Angle?
Posted: Mar 13th 2013 By: mikeiles
After the Glenn Beck furor garnered WWE a great deal of mainstream press several weeks ago, management must have thought they had stumbled upon a red-hot angle with Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter's anti-immigration gimmick.
Alas, since then, the storyline has floundered. Judging by the lukewarm reaction he has received from fans on recent editions of Raw and SmackDown, Swagger doesn't appear to be over as a monster killer heel.
And let's not even get started on the truly cringe-worthy "comedy" segment which saw Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez spoof the pair.
Yeah, DX parodying The Nation this was not.
And as WrestleChat (via Wrestling Observer) notes, Zeb/Swagger hasn't exactly proven to be a hit with viewers, either.
Sure, wrestling veteran Colter is a great talker, and Swagger can show the necessary aggressiveness when required to, but this whole thing is fast looking to be a flop.
It probably doesn't help that Alberto Del Rio does not appear to be fully comfortable in the babyface role yet.
Unsurprisingly, a report has emerged noting that people in WWE are greatly concerned about the storyline's failure to take off properly.
WrestlingInc (via F4Wonline) notes:
Vince McMahon has been a fan of the Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter storyline but word at Raw last night was that there's a lot of concern about the angle and its future. The program was originally designed to be a long-term feud to help get Del Rio as a babyface but those plans may be changing. There's a feeling that the angle is not getting over on WWE TV but Zeb and Swagger are getting heat at live events.
It will be interesting to see if WWE sticks with the storyline after WrestleMania. Reports (WrestlingInc via F4Wonline) have indicated that the feud was due to continue past April 7, but there seems little point in sticking with it long-term if it's not over.
