WWE News: Jerry 'The King' Lawler to Step Back into the Squared Circle

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler is an icon in the wrestling business. As we all know the voice of Monday Night Raw suffered a heart attack live on Raw last year. This near-tragedy took place shortly after he competed in a wrestling match that night. Lawler has not participated in any matches since that night, but it's not because he doesn't want to.

Lawler recently did an interview with Janice Broach of WMC-TV. In the interview, Lawler says:

The one thing I've not done since the heart attack is get back into the ring and wrestle," he explained. "And, Lauryn says that I've been, the one thing that's different about me since the heart attack, she says, 'You're depressed. You're going through depression.' Which I don't feel it. I don't think it. But, yeah, I certainly do miss the wrestling and I do want to go back and do it some more."

The interview also reveals that Lawler has yet to be cleared by WWE doctors to return to in-ring action. One of the main reasons behind this is because he is currently taking blood thinners. Obviously with being on that medication, any sort of cut or wound from a match could lead to serious complications.

Lawler is lucky to be alive; I think that he and everyone else shares in that sentiment. It's wonderful that his road to recovery has gone as well as it has. From this interview and his recent work on Raw, it's clear that he hasn't really missed a beat. As much as I love seeing him at the announcer desk every week, I'd equally cringe at the idea of him back in the ring.

At 63 years old, Lawler is far from being a spring chicken. His age, along with his and his family's history of heart issues, should be enough to keep him from wrestling again. The thought of Lawler stepping back into the squared circle is scary.

At this point in his career there is no reason that he should be wrestling on WWE television. His feud with Miz and his WWE title shot were nice feathers in his cap, but he doesn't need any more feathers.

There may come a point when he is off his current medication. If this happens he will most likely be cleared by WWE doctors to return to the ring. I truly hope that Vince McMahon doesn't allow this to happen. Could you imagine him wrestling and suffering a second heart attack on Raw? Not only would it be a PR nightmare, but he could lose his life.

Obviously WWE cannot control what he does outside of the company. If Lawler wants to wrestle again, he shouldn't have any issue finding gigs outside of WWE. Let's just hope that if Lawler does find his way back into the ring, he is safe and well.
