WWE Elimination Chamber 2013 Results: What We Learned from Jack Swagger's Win

WWE Elimination Chamber 2013 Results: What We Learned from Jack Swagger's Win

Posted: Feb 18th 2013 By: mikeiles

The only Elimination Chamber match contested at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event on Sunday night was one of the better versions of the match in years. When the dust settled, Jack Swagger was crowned victorious.

Mark Henry came into the match as the final entrant and wasted no time eliminating the WWE Tag Team champions, Daniel Bryan and Kane. It took an effort from Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and Swagger together to eliminate the world's strongest man.

Jericho and Orton dueled near the end of the match, with Orton hitting an RKO to knock Y2J out. Immediately Swagger came from behind with a roll-up to pin Orton and win the match, a result that likely surprised many.

Swagger now heads to WrestleMania 29 as the No. 1 contender for the World championship, a title he held for a couple of months in 2010.

This is clearly a new Swagger. He has Zeb Colter by his side, who is doing a great job getting him over. Swagger is more aggressive in the ring, and since returning to WWE, he has looked very good.

So what did we learn on Sunday night? We learned that WWE is very much behind this new pairing of Swagger and Colter, who have made it clear that they will fight for their version of America. While the angle may be controversial to some, it is brilliant due to the current titleholder.

Alberto Del Rio retained his World title against Big Show on Sunday and now faces a challenge in the form of Swagger. Del Rio has gone from one of WWE's most detested heels to a guy the crowd loves. Meanwhile, despite calling himself a "real American," Swagger will go into the match as the man the crowd is against. That will be quite interesting.

What will also be interesting is the way this match is built over the next seven weeks. Del Rio seems to be exactly what Swagger and Colter have spoken out against in the three promos they have cut since last Monday.

The WWE has longed for a Latino Superstar the crowd can get behind since Eddie Guerrero, and they now have one. Due to this, we will witness a passionate and emotional storyline heading into WrestleMania, where we will get a match we haven't had before.

Considering who he was up against, Swagger probably wasn't picked by many to win the Elimination Chamber match. But he should have been. WWE made the right call, and now they have an intriguing World title match at the biggest pay-per-view of the year.
