Roddy Piper Says Brock Lesnar Would Be His Ideal Opponent for One More Match
Posted: Feb 12th 2013 By: mikeiles
Roddy Piper made his name in professional wrestling by speaking his mind, no matter how outrageous the statements.
So it should come as no surprise that, in a recent interview with WrestleNewz.com, the Rowdy One says Brock Lesnar would be the one wrestler with whom he would want a match. And when asked to elaborate on why he would chose Lesnar, Piper says it would be reminiscent of an historic match he had with fellow Hall of Famer Greg Valentine at the first NWA Starrcade event in 1983:
It would be something of a variation of the dog-collar match I had with Valentine. And I can see it getting pretty rough. And I can see it drawing a lot of money!
Given Piper?s past as one of the most rough-and-tumble performers in wrestling, it should come as no surprise that he picked Lesnar as an ideal opponent. Later in the interview, Piper says that, from a physical standpoint, ?it?s hard to beat Brock Lesnar? for toughness.
Also in the interview, Piper says there are so many great wrestlers in the ring today that it is hard to pick one above the others as the best. He mentions the names of CM Punk, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and Cody Rhodes, but adds quickly that ?so many guys nowadays are fantastic.?
In the interview, Piper also is effusive about his son, MMA fighter Cody Toombs. Toombs appears under his given name so it will not appear he is trying to capitalize on the Piper link?and that is fine with his old man:
I'm trying to mostly stay away from it. His name is Colt Toombs. He is undefeated as an MMA fighter as an amateur, and he always fights under his real name, Toombs. He's making his own headway, on his own terms, with his own name. And I'm extremely proud of him.
When asked if his son will ever try to make it in WWE, Piper says he does not want to give away any of Colt's future plans, then adds, ?But you won't miss him! He'll be coming at you, oh, yeah.?
