Overcoming the Handicaps

Overcoming the Handicaps

Posted: Oct 21st 2012 By: CMBurnham

One month ago, Double D achieved the dream of his career as he won the IZW Title from Aaron Neil. It was the capstone achievement for him for 2 reasons.

First, it fulfilled a dream he had been robbed of almost one year earlier by then-IZW commissioner Jeff Wolfenbarger. At that point. D, who was the IZW Impact Division Champion, defeated Jermaine Johnson in a Title-vs-Title match with Johnny Z as special referee. But Wolfenbarger overturned that decision, going so far as to get an injunction to have the title change stricken from the IZW records as if the match never happened.

Secondly, it made Double D a dual champion, as he is also the MSWA Mid-South Champion. Holding two titles in two federations, especially the top title in both, is a huge achievement for anyone, much less someone who has only been wrestling for approximately 3 years.

What D didn't know was that his wrestling life in IZW would become a living hell as IZW commissioner Erica would make it her personal issue to try and get D to either come over to the ranks of Impact Elite or to simply quite wrestling. To achieve that goal, Erica placed D in a series of Handicap Matches. First against IZW Tag Team Champions Big Business. Then against The Convict & Kyra Maya, under Impact Rules. And finally against O'Malley & Kyle Kelly. D fought valiantly against all of these combinations, but the size, combined with the 2-on-1 scenarios, proved impossible for D to overcome and he was left a beaten man under all those conditions.

D's war with his former girlfriend seemed to be confined to IZW, until D participated in the beatdown of Impact, Inc. 2 weeks ago. Humiliated, Erica, Johnny Z & MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Jordan Jacobs & IZW Impact Division Champion Jermaine Johnson made it clear they wanted revenge. After Johnny Z orchestrated an absolutely heinous attack on Bad Boy's father, which resulted in the MSWA owner being taken to the hospital, Johnson & Jacobs decided to make an example out of 2 stars returning to MSWA: Sean Pearl & Jason Kirby. Impact, Inc. put the titles on the line against them and perhaps they underestimated the fire in these two men, as Pearl & Kirby gave them a serious challenge, despite being an unproven tag team. But a Mushroom Stomp by Jacobs while Kirby was positioned across Johnson's knee was enough to finally get the champions a win. After the match, Impact, Inc. comtinued their gangland-style beating on the young competitors until Double D came to the rescue with a chair. Absolutely irate, Erica employed the tactic so familiar to D in IZW by putting D in a Handicap Match against the Tag Team Champions in the main event.

Double D was able to overcome the odds placed in front of him, thanks in part to the actions of Nemesis, who have a score to settle with Impact, Inc. at Mid-South Mayhem on October 28th. Double D also looks to handle business once and for all as he puts his Mid-South Title on the line against Johnny Z's career. But D and Nemesis got a little preliminary action in against Johnson & Jacobs after the Handicap Match was over, essentially giving them the same treatment that Impact, Inc. had received at the end of the previous show. Both me were treated much like pinballs, bounced around the ring and on the receiving end of some of the most punishing moves in the arsenals of Nemesis & Double D. The fan favourites stood proud and tall at the end of the show, hoping to do the same on October 28th when all the titles are on the line.
