Updates On Jerry Lawler's Condition

Updates On Jerry Lawler's Condition

Posted: Sep 12th 2012 By: CMBurnham

Reports are flooding in on various news sites regarding Jerry Lawler's condition following the apparent heart attack he suffered during the Monday Night RAW broadcast.

Rather than post them seperately (and risk turning this site into Lawlerfan.com), we have combined all the reports into one giant-sized update which you can read here.

---------------------------------

From KAIT8.com

We have an update to the breaking news story we brought you overnight about Jerry "The King" Lawler. It appears that the wrestling star suffered a heart attack during a WWE event Monday night, and will undergo heart surgery today.

The 62-year-old is in stable condition, and breathing on his own at a hospital in Montreal, Canada.

According to WWE.com, Lawler collapsed at the announcers' table and was given CPR before being rushed to a hospital in Montreal.

His girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, who lives here in Memphis, has issued this statement via Facebook, thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

"I'm getting on the first flight out of here to be with him and will keep everyone posted," McBride said.

Lawler's health scare hits close to home for us here at WMC-TV as well. During his early career, Lawler wrestled right here in our studio during the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Since then, he has returned to the Mid-South for dozens of shows and events.

This morning, the World Wrestling Entertainment sent this statement to our newsroom:

"We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family."

Fans across the Mid-South are also standing behind the king during this difficult time.

#Pray for Lawler has been trending throughout the night on Twitter.

Stay with Action News 5 and wmctv.com as we will have updates on Lawler's condition throughout the day.
-------------------------------------------------------

From TMZ.com

Jerry 'The King' Lawler's vital signs are stable ... and he seems to be making progress in his recovery after suffering a heart attack on live TV during a WWE event Monday night.

A rep for the WWE tells TMZ ... "As of this morning, Jerry 'The King' Lawler is in a cardiac care unit and all his vital signs are stable."

The org. notes, "WWE will provide additional information as it becomes available. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery.?

Lawler's ex-wife Stacy Carter has been providing updates on the wrestler's condition on Twitter -- saying he underwent surgery last night and had a "stint & a balloon put in."

Carter says Jerry is still heavily sedated.

As we previously reported, 62-year-old Lawler suffered the heart attack roughly 30 minutes after he finished wrestling during a "Monday Night Raw" performance in Montreal ... and was rushed to a local hospital.

From PrimeWrestling.com

PRIME Wrestling shares in the concern and sadness over the incident surrounding wrestling legend & Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler this past Monday night in Montreal. The vast majority of our wrestlers, staff, and crew have had the pleasure of sharing a locker room with Jerry at one time or another in their travels throughout the country over the years.

Jerry's love and passion for performing and for his fans was evident any time he stepped into a ring, and has always been very personable and in great spirits anytime you saw him. Jerry's long list of accomplishments, accolades, and championships, especially in his hometown of Memphis, TN, will never be duplicated.

Jerry is an avid Cleveland sports fan, having lived in the area early in his life, which makes this tragic incident all the more shocking & hit that much closer to home. Our thoughts & prayers are with Jerry Lawler's friends & loved ones and we wish nothing but a speedy recovery for "The King".
-------------------------------------------

From Lawler's ex-wife "The Kat" Stacy Carter:

I have an update on Jerry. The docs are removing his ventilation & taking him out of sedation. He is responsive, which is great!!! It took a while to revive him last night so there?s the concern of brain damage.

He had some tests done which will show how much if any damage there is due to the lack of oxygen to his brain. Unfortunately, the results won?t be in until in the morning. I appreciate all the calls, texts, tweets, & Facebook messages of support & I know Jerry will too.
--------------------------------------------

From WREG.com

Jerry Lawler continues to recover in a hospital in Montreal, Canada, after suffering a heart attack at a WWE RAW event.

Lawler?s family members are now with him and have told close friends that he is alert and able to squeeze loved ones? hands.

There is concern over whether there might be brain damage, but as of Tuesday night, it is too soon to tell.

Buddy Wayne, who wrestled with Lawler and remembers Lawler getting his start, said he was shocked to hear about the heart attack.

?I just stated to somebody the other day. Man, he?s in great shape. But you don?t never know,? Wayne said.

He said, ?I pray for Jerry. Believe me, and I?ll continue praying. Because I believe all you people out there are praying for him too.?

Wayne said he admires Lawler?s talent in the ring and values his true friendship.

Reggie Walker, also known as Reggie B Fine, echoed those sentiments. Walker golfs with Lawler a couple of times a week.

Both Wayne and Walker said Lawler kept himself in excellent shape, and never drank alcohol or used drugs.

If there was only one weakness, Walker said it might be fried chicken.

?As soon as we get through playing golf, we got to go get a bucket of Church?s chicken,? Walker said.

Walker was watching the televised event in Montreal Monday night, and he could tell something was wrong.

?I?d never seen that look in his face before. And I?ve been around this man for 22, 23 years. I?ve never seen that blank stare before,? he said.

Both he and Wayne hope and pray Lawler bounces back.
--------------------------------------------------

From Lawler's son "Grandmaster Sexay" Brian Christopher:

Jerry Lawler update from his son Brian Christopher: "Ok, here?s the latest real update. Lauren and I are here at the hospital in Montreal.

He does not look good at all. He is responsive to questions that he is asked which is very good. His sedation and breathing support are being lowered slowly right now.

He was shocked a total of 7 times at the arena and underwent a balloon stint to open up a clogged artery when he arrived at hospital. Everyone out there needs to say a special prayer for his brain at this point, please.

Tests on his brain will not be available until the morning. One of us two will keep all you guys informed as we know more"
