Gallows Grabs For The Gold Part 1
Posted: Aug 30th 2012 By: CMBurnham
BYEW Caution & SWCW Hardcore Champion Drake Gallows made an immediate impact upon entering SRPW on August 11. He accompanied SRPW & BYEW Champion Sam Stackhouse to the ring for his SRPW Title defence against Nate Martinez. Stackhouse was able to retain his title as a direct result of Gallows' interference.
With two titles around his waist, Gallows probably never thought he would be in line for a 3rd title come the next SRPW event. But that's exactly what happened.
After SRPW United States Champion Graham Bell successfully defended his title, the Golden Alliance came to the ring in full force. SRPW Commission B-Arthur congratulated Bell and sent him off with Sasha to allow her to rub out any cramps he may have gotten in his title defence. He also gave Stackhouse the night off and then proceded to talk about the SRPW Tag Team Titles, which would be defended in the main event. That was the point that Gallows objected. He had been under the impression that Arthur would grant the Clockwork Clique a shot at those belts, but instead, Arthur had announced that the shot would go to a team that had never competed in SRPW before: the Midwest Marvels. Gallows became irate, pushing Arthur into the corner of the ring. This prompted Arthur to announce that Gallows was fired. But Stackhouse delivered the true shock as he executed a Bubba Bomb on Gallows. Arthur then apparently rescinded the firing and announced that Stackhouse would face Gallows later that night for the SRPW Title.
Gallows was a little shaken, but wasn't willing to back down as he entered the ring to take on Stackhouse in the semi-main event. The ring was unable to contain a lot of the action as Gallows relied on some aerial tactics, keeping Stackhouse off guard. And also like Stackhouse's previous match, he would rely on outside assistance. But this time, it came in the form of Sasha, who distracted the referee while Gallows powerbombed Stackhouse from the second rope. That allowed the champion to escape after just a two-count. Stackhouse then grabbed a crutch and hit Gallows with it, earning a DQ loss, but keeping the title. B-Arthur was quite unhappy about the loss and tried to intimidate referee Dennis Heflin into reversing the decision. Gallows quickly came to Heflin's defence, knocking Arthur down and putting him in a Sharpshooter, all the while yelling for Stackhouse to get back into the ring. Eventually, the newly dubbed "Six Pack Athlete" came to his manager's defence and the two men brawled all the way to the back.
Things are not settled between these two, but perhaps they will be come September 1st as Stackhouse once again defends his title against Gallows. But this time, it will be a match where there will essentially be no rules. That sounds like an environment that Gallows would thrive in, but as will be seen in the next part of this article, even the most "hardcore" of wrestlers can suffer a defeat or two when the conditions are right.
