WWE News: TNA Stars on the Cover of Clash of the Champions DVD (w/ Pic)

Posted: Mar 23rd 2012 By: mikeiles

As many are aware, "The Best of WCW Clash of the Champions" is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray May 22nd.

What many don't know, however, is that the cover is somewhat odd for a WWE Home Video release.

According to WWEDVDNews.com, not only has the cover been released (click here to see it), it will feature only two wrestlers?both of whom are currently signed with TNA Wrestling.

Instead of a collage?which has been the norm for "best of" sets?the WWE has opted to highlight only Ric Flair and Sting.

Specifically, the image shows the two in the midst of their famous 45-minute bout at the inaugural Clash of the Champions. Sting is sternly twisting the left wrist of Flair, who, in response, is writhing in debilitating pain.

While the two were heavily involved with the TBS event, some would say it's curious that the WWE would essentially give TNA free publicity by focusing on Sting and Flair.

On the other hand, it could be argued that by using the likenesses of the two icons as it pleases, WWE is pooh-poohing TNA's existence.

Needless to say, the WWE is no stranger to either performer.

The company has been in on/off negotiations with Sting for a possible match with Undertaker at WrestleMania and Flair is scheduled to appear at the 2012 Hall of Fame ceremony as part of the Four Horsemen while under contract to TNA.

Evidently, the only thing TNA executives have been seeking as compensation for Flair's impending WWE TV appearance is an on-air acknowledgement of their organization, but that is highly unlikely.

In a roundabout way, though, the Clash of the Champions DVD cover is an acknowledgement of TNA, for better or worse.
