Posted: Mar 1st 2012 By: mikeiles
Terry Funk is one of the greatest workers in professional wrestling, and throughout his illustrious career, which started in 1965, Funk has participated in some memorable matches.
Funk has retired on several occasions in his career, but his latest indication of retirement is most likely on the up and up.
According to PWInsider.com, Funk is undergoing a second knee replacement surgery and he has indicated to those close to him that this surgery will most likely end his career as a professional wrestler.
At the ripe old age of 67, Funk's career withstood the test of time and he has the scars and injuries to prove it.
Funk was a massive star in the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions, and had some fabulous matches with Ric Flair. Funk captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, and he won numerous other titles within the promotion.
When Eastern Championship Wrestling was re-branded as Extreme Championship Wrestling and was headed by Paul Heyman, Funk was brought in to push the rising stars of the promotion.
He had participated in some brutal and bloody matches in ECW that took years off of his life. He captured the ECW Title and the ECW World Television Title.
Funk found great success in the WWE during the Attitude Era when he, as the persona Chainsaw Charlie, teamed up with Mick Foley's alter ego Cactus Jack, and they captured the WWE World Tag Team Championship.
Funk was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.
Funk's last match was with Jerry Lawler for the promotion Northeast Wrestling a few months ago. If Funk does retire after this surgery, he will be sorely missed in the world of professional wrestling.
Terry Funk was an innovator, and an icon.
