The Infection Spreads! Nemesis Establishes Tag Team Dominance of 3 Federations!
Posted: Feb 26th 2012 By: CMBurnham
They were voted Tag Team of the Year in 2011 and at that point only held 1 tag team title. 2 months into 2012, Nemesis are the first Triple Crown Tag Team champions since Texas, Inc. Could they be the first team to repeat as Tag Team of the Year since 2007?
On October 2, 2011, Damon Windsor & Damien Morte upset The New Age Syndicate for the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Titles. It was a remarkable victory for them, but they were never able to capitalise on it since MSWA went inactive after that event. That didn't mean the end of Nemesis though as they continued to compete in IZW regularly for the remainder of the year as well as make sporadic appearances in other federations.
Things looked a little bleak for the group on October 22, 2011 when Morte suffered a broken clavicle in a match against current ComPro Tag Team Champions X-Cal. That put Morte out of action for about 3 months, but his return was very well timed as he assisted Rage Logan in winning the IZW Impact Division Title at the beginning of 2012. 6 weeks later, Logan lost that title to Jordan Jacobs, but the very next week, a healed Morte teamed with Logan once again and defeated the Old School Suckas for the IZW Tag Team Titles. It was their second time atop the mountain in IZW and while the match was back and forth, the decisive moment came when Morte blinded Gary Tool with his mist. This stunned him, allowing Morte to position Tool for a neckbreaker while Logan came off the rope with a crossbody. Both men then pinned Tool and became tag team champions. Two titles in two federations. And things got even better the next day.
On February 18th, BYEW held an event celebrating one year of running shows in Oklahoma City. . For most of that time, the BYEW Tag Team Champions had been The Syndicate. And The Syndicate made their presence known, arriving to talk about how they were businessmen. They did whatever they had to do in order to make the most money. They then made some cryptic comments indicating that they had heard there were some guys wanting to destroy BYEW from the inside and dared those mystery men to come to the ring to join them. Those mystery men were revealed to be Nemesis, who took the interview stage and said they were the best tag team in the state and possibly the world. They ran down BYEW, calling it a cancer to the state of wrestling and to the business in general, saying they were embarassed to be on the show. Then they revealed their plan, which was to take the BYEW Tag Team Titles and then take over the company.
Lacking no confidence, Nemesis strode to the ring to confront the Sanders twins, but the Syndicate had plan B ready to go. They said that Nemesis were businessmen, just like they were and handed them a very thick envelope of money, Logan took the money and seemed impressed by how much it weighed. Then, in an act of utter contempt, he rubbed the envelope against his crotch and threw it back at the Syndicate. Referee Chance Snodgrass signalled for the match between the two to begin but it was over almost as soon as it started. Two quick rollups on the Syndicate members and a double 3-count led to Nemesis picking up their 3rd tag team title in Oklahoma.
The Syndicate took their anger out of Chance Snodgrass after the match, giving him a double chokeslam and taking him out of action for the remainder of the show. None of this mattered to the champs, though as their dominance of Oklahoma City and Lawton had taken one more step. Normally, Nemesis don't venture much further north than OKC, but perhaps The Dramatic Athletes and the Jersey Kings should keep themselves aware. The Nemesis infection is spreading through the state and no ones tag team titles are safe from this diabolical threesome.
